A listing (from most current to furthest back) of any write-up posts in which Brian has been mentioned:
  • TheOHHHHHHH!!!!! (Oct 7th, 2025) - We are now halfway through the Fall 2025 season, and the tension is thick enough to slice with a bowling pin. Every frame counts now for those hungry for the championship. Unlike recent seasons, First Place has become a hot potato no one can seem to hold — this week brought our fifth leader change so far, and FanDuel can barely keep can barely keep up with the ever-changing stats. Week eight saw two teams claw their way upward in the standings while two others took a tumble into despair. One bowler rolled a personal best that left jaws on the floor. JoAnne Barber picked up this week’s high game (156) and series (401) for the women, while Nick Kinney dominated with this week’s high game (275) and series (626) for the men. Hold onto your shoes and read on — this league night had drama, heartbreak, and triumph in equal measure!

  • SWEEPing Generalibations (Sep 30th, 2025) - Greetings, Bowling Generals, it is I, Pete Hegseth, your Secretary of WAR. Lean in, because Week Seven of Fall 2025… oh man, it was something else. Two teams climbing, two slipping — like strong men scaling mountains of bourbon bottles while others lose their grip and tumble. You could feel it in the air, heavy, like after a long patrol. JoAnne Barber — tough, resilient — fired off a 143 high game and a 393 series for the women. Big respect. But still, a woman. The real proving ground, it’s the men. Nick Kinney — dropped a 226, like a howitzer firing in rhythm. And Matthew Taylor — 605 series. Six-oh-five, gentlemen. That’s not bowling, that’s endurance, sinew, veins pumping, the essence of peak male performance. You gotta read this whole thing, because from here out, we’re not playing by the old rules. The league — this league — it’s war now. And yes, we’ll be making war on our own teams to train, to harden, to forge iron from iron.

  • Bowling In Pregnancy Linked To Austism (Sep 23rd, 2025) - I, your favorite President Donald J. Trump, am back with an important announcement about the sixth week of Fall 2025 — and folks, let me tell you, it was tremendous, absolutely tremendous. People are saying three teams, not one, not two, but THREE teams, they climbed in the standings — like my poll numbers, very high, very strong, levels never seen — while two teams, and it’s very sad, they slipped. They slipped like fake CNN's ratings, folks, not good, not strong. And we had history, real history: one bowler — set a new personal best series, can you believe it? And a brand new personal high game, which is a beautiful thing, a big beautiful thing. JoAnne Barber — fantastic woman, very classy — she got the high game of the week (143) AND the series (370) for the women. For the men, Ian Estey, people love Ian, strong competitor, he comes in with a high game (213) and series (593). Big numbers, folks. No one has ever seen numbers like these. And some people are saying, “Oh, RFK Jr. says it’s Brian Schaben's bowling ball polish that causes autism,” and I don’t know, maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not, other people, they have to be careful what they say, but I can say what I want. And I don’t trust Democrat-run bowling teams, and I don’t trust their ball polish either. Read on, folks, because it only gets better, and maybe — just maybe — the National Guard should be called in for excitement control.

  • No! Not No! Not Theo! In First! (Sep 9th, 2025) - The fourth week of Fall 2025 struck like lightning across the alleys, reshaping the destiny of the standings in one fell swoop. One team clawed their way up the ladder, another slipped into despair, and one bowler etched their personal best into league lore. Sparks flew when Cat Atwood unleashed a blistering 153 to seize the women’s high game, while JoAnne Barber coolly stacked a 365 to claim women’s high series. On the men’s side, Nick Kinney erupted with a thunderous 246 high game, but the night belonged to Matthew Taylor, whose unstoppable 625 secured the men’s high series. Meanwhile, the Tournament of Champions roared to life, the beginning of 13 weeks of head-to-head battles where heroes will be made and pretenders unmasked. The pins never knew what hit them — and this is only the beginning.

  • Team 2 Is Great Again! (Sep 2nd, 2025) - Because the team named for my beautiful TARIFFS has jumped into first place -- the highest place, a level never before seen, I, your Favorite President Donald J. Trump, am writing this week's recap. The third week of Fall 2025 was absolutely tremendous, folks — really historic. We saw winners rise, losers tumble, and believe me, everybody was talking about it. Two teams climbed the standings — beautiful climbing, the best kind — while two very sad, very weak teams slipped down. Cat Atwood, who is just terrific, totally dominated with this week’s high game (150) and series (391) for the women, while Aaron Barber — a tremendous bowler, by the way — delivered the men’s high game (211) and series (615). And now the Tournament of Champions divisions are set, ready for some incredible, one-on-one action beginning next week. People are calling it the best lineup in history. Read on — it only gets better!

  • Spring 2025 Recap (Jun 6th, 2025) - Here is your Spring 2025 Recap, where you can find out who won all the individual awards plus lots more! Our next season will (likely) begin on August 19, 2025!

  • Week 12 Brought Some Surprises! (Apr 22nd, 2025) - The twelfth week of Spring 2025 was anything but business as usual. With the rest of the standings seemingly immobile, the bottom two teas traded places once again. JoAnne Barber claimed this week’s high game (153) and series (373) for the women, while Nick Kinney dominated for the men with a ferocious 210 game and a blazing 577 series. But before the first frame even began, the crowd had something extra to cheer about... The alley was graced by a surprise visit from some league royalty: Angela Bradford, Bill Krejci, Bob Brunker, and Deena Slinkard! Angela and Bob, founding members from the league’s humble 1999 beginnings, were last regular bowlers in the Covid season, though Bob also subbed during the league’s first season here at St. John’s. Bill and Deena, staples since Fall 2000, haven’t rolled since Spring 2014 and 2009 respectively—but Bill picked up a ball once again as a sub tonight while Deena, Angela, and Bob heckled with the finesse of seasoned pros from the bar.

  • Spring 2025 Preview (Jan 22nd, 2025) -

  • Fall 2024 Recap (Dec 31st, 2024) -

  • Gobble Gobbowl (Nov 26th, 2024) - The crisp autumn air was filled with anticipation, as the annual Thanksgiving bowling tournament commenced. The ancient alleys, lit by flickering torchlight, witnessed heroic feats and heart-wrenching defeats. The pins, much like the freshly harvested corn, stood ready to be knocked down, and the teams came prepared to write history in the annals of the game. One pilgrim set a new personal best series. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (144) and series (390) for the woman, while Dustin Schmeltz earned this week's high game (232) and series (578) for the men.

  • The Halloween Episode: Murders on the Lanes (Oct 29th, 2024) - The haunting Halloween week of Fall 2024 brought a chill over the league as bowlers took to the lanes under a shadow of suspense. JoAnne Barber braved the eerie tension, snagging this week's high game (134) and series (369) for the woman, while Aaron Barber claimed the men’s high game with a hair-raising 240 and Seth Gunderson’s wicked high series of 623 was nothing short of legendary. But amid the celebrations, bowlers whispered of a masked figure prowling the alley. One by one, they began to vanish...

  • Debatably Good Bowling (Sep 10th, 2024) - The third week of Fall 2024 rolled in with anticipation, as one team soared to new heights and another tumbled down the standings. JoAnne Barber made waves with this week’s high game (126) and series (347) for the woman, while Matthew Taylor took center stage for the men with a high game (238) and series (614). Meanwhile, the Tournament of Champions divisions are locked and loaded, ready to bring head-to-head showdowns next week! Let’s dive into the play-by-play drama of this week's matchups.

  • Fall 2024 Bowling Preview! (Aug 13th, 2024) - Welcome to the Fall 2024 bowling season! We start bowling 2 weeks from tonight, on August 27, same location and same time as usual. There is still time to submit roster changes, but for the time being all six teams seem to be the same as last time with two exceptions: Ray Scott is sitting this season out, and Nick Kinney is replacing Michael Gordon. Please get team names and any other roster changes to us by this weekend, and if anyone else wants to bowl who did not bowl last season, let Scoot or AJ know ASAP so we can find you a spot! (Reminder: Scoot is out of town most of next week so please try to finalize things by this weekend.)

  • Night of the Living Balls (Oct 31st, 2023) - In the eerie, dimly lit bowling alley, the tenth week of Fall 2023 unfolded like a Halloween horror story. The standings remained frozen, as if cursed by some malevolent force, refusing to budge from their haunted positions. JoAnne Barber, a cursed mummy whose name is whispered in fearful tones, emerged from the shadows to claim the witches' high game (114) and series (331) for the week. But it was Undead Ben Spencer, a mysterious figure with a sinister aura, who clawed his way to the warlocks' high game (205) and series (543), as if under a dark spell. Their accomplishments, while impressive, were shrouded in an unsettling air.

  • We Heart Bowling (Feb 14th, 2023) - Valentine's Day 2023 saw an extremely frustrated Scoot punch his computer (gently though, it was expensive) then later saw one team climb in the standings, while one team slipped. In a shocking development, JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (134) and series (372) for the woman, while Nick Kinney earned this week's high game (225) and series (638) for the men. Meanwhile, the Tournament of Champions also kicked off tonight, beginning of 13 weeks of one-on-one bowling excitement! Read on for all the rest of the details!
