Season 27: Spring 2013

Proving that you can teach an old dog new tricks, this season – packed with a LOT of returning veterans – ended up being the best season in our league's history. Of course, it didn't hurt that we brought an incredible rookie into the fold...but we'll get to that.

The following are bowlers that shot their all-time bests:

Highest game?
Shane Daniel, Mark DeVoe, Bryan Mohr, Neil Rieger, Ryan Doll, and Bill Krejci

Highest series?
Shane Daniel, Mark DeVoe, Cliff Barendsen, Dennis Blake, Steve Kiernan, Bill Krejci, and Ken M. Wilson

Highest season-ending average?
Sarah West, Shane Daniel, Mark DeVoe, Andy McLeod, Anita Osthoff, Phil Schroeder, Dennis Blake, Cliff Barendsen, Ian Goetz, Bill Krejci, and Ken M. Wilson

Several bowlers also put up scores that put them into the all-time records in league history:

Ken M. Wilson and Bill Krejci put up the 2nd and 3rd highest series in league history, respectfully, during the season. Wilson put up a 764 in Week #5 while Krejci put up a 743 series three weeks later. Krejci also shot the 5th highest score in league history that same night, ending with a 279.

Wilson had his best season to date, ending with a 210 average, and threw the most 200+ games in a single season as well as logging the most total pins in a single season.

Cliff Barendsen took over the honor of being the all-time most improved bowler in-between seasons by raising his average an incredible 30 pins from last season. Just imagine what he'll do once he gets his own bowling ball.

Rookie sensation, and now the 4th best bowler in our league's history, Kody Karnes took over the top spot on the all-time list for most 600+ series in a single season. He shot 600+ in 13 of the sixteen weeks.

Veteran Steve Kiernan showed up to sub one night and ended up with a 235 average, making him the best all-time substitute bowler our league has ever seen.

With their season ending averages, X bowlers this season found their names cemented moreso on the best bowlers of all-time league: Wilson is now #2, Kody debuted at #4, Krejci moved to 7th, Ian to 13th, Cliff debuted on the list at #19, and Hall of Famer Bob Bunker is now 24th.

The Tournament of Champions was won by Kody Karnes when he poured it on in the final two frames against runner-up Mark DeVoe. As this season's champ, Kody received an additional $42 in his prize envelope. DeVoe received $22 for second place.

Scoot officially gave the Scott Murdock "Get 'er Done" Award this season to Ryan Doll, with Cliff Barendsen as the runner-up. Why?

"Like a few others, Ryan Doll has been seen multiple times helping out with the scoring computers when both Ken and I were unavailable. While that certainly made him a candidate, what sealed it for me was something he did several months ago. I can't go into details so as to protect the privacy of those involved, but both Ryan and Cliff have gone above and beyond to help other bowlers met with unexpected circumstances. Thanks to the separate actions of those two, bowlers were able to remain in the league who likely would have otherwise needed to leave."

Prize money was handed out for the teams based upon wins:

1. Will Strike If Provoked (42-22)
2. Dragon Balls (37-27)
3. Snakes on a Lane (36-28)
4. Murder, He Wrote (33.5-30.5)
5. Three Strikes and You're Out! (31-33)
6. Brunk Enough to Dowl (31-33)
7. Split It and Hit It (25.5-38.5)
8. Ballz Out (20-44)

And lastly, Seth Gunderson was officially inducted into the GutterAlley Hall of Fame after being selected over Bill Krejci, Cory Chorpenning, Demond Robinson, Jason Carpio, and Ryan Doll by the voters of the bowling community.

For those of you that were in attendance at the awards banquet, we decided to do things a little differently with the Hall of Fame announcement and did it in the form of a video parody of a scene in "The Big Lebowski" featuring cameos by every single member of the Hall of Fame.

Here it is:

Congratulations to all of the winners this season!
