The 11th Frame – Week 10, Spring 2013

Posted by Ken April 4, 2013 Spring 2013

The tenth installment of "The 11th Frame" features some interesting nuggets from our Top 25s collection, covering the accolades (and disappointments) of our current and not so-current league rollers. As mentioned already in this week's write-upKody Karnes established himself as the greatest rookie in league history with his first 700+ series while Rob Kaszuba's Most Valuable Bowler performance kept his team atop the league standings. Wondering what else happened that you probably didn't know about? Check this out:INDIVIDUALS:

There's no need to fear, the underdog is here!
Bryan Mohr After having busted a finger on his bowling hand earlier in the season, Bryan Mohr disappeared for a while. Tuesday night, however, he bounced back to roll his first 200+ game. We got to wondering who, as an underdog in our league (anyone with an average of 149 or below), had rolled a 200+ game the fastest since their debut. With his 207 in Game #3, Bryan debuted in the #21 spot on the Top 25 Underdogs to Shoot a 200+ Game the Fastest. Hell of a recovery, Mohr!
AB cleans up
Angela Bradford Anyone that has ever faced Angela Bradford knows that she's capable of bringing the pain. The best female bowler in our league's history, this Hall of Famer is on the verge of having her best season ever this time around. In the process, her team has been handing out sweeps. With her latest 4-0 night, AB finds herself passing league powerhouses Pat Searcy, Jason Carpio, and Ryan Doll to move into the 11th spot on the Top 25 Bowlers Who Have Handed Out the Most Sweeps. Not too shABby. See what we did there? Nevermind, forget it.
Phil on a run

Phil Schroeder
One of the most viewed Top 25s we have on the site is the list of the league's best bowler of all time. With only a handful of changes over the last 5-6 years, the names on that list (but not the order) have remained basically the same. This season, barring massive meltdowns, we will easily see two brand new names – Kody Karnes and Cliff Barendsen. Currently, a bowler needs to end their season with an average of 174+ to make the list...but with Kody and Cliff almost assuredly making the list, you'd need a 176+ average to get there. Phil Schroeder, currently in the midst of his best season to date, is carrying a 172 average and has a damn good shot to land on the list. Go for it, Phil!

TEAMS:

You're kidding - THAT is the best team of all time?!?
After looking over the list of the best bowlers in league history, we decided to peek in on the Top 25 Best Teams of All Time to see how this season may impact it. Despite being in the bottom half of the league standings, Snakes on a Lane could end as the #1 best team of all time. Currently, their cumulative Power Rank score is 206.110 and the reigning best team in league history, Fall 2009's Sweep the Leg, Johnny, had a score of 203.916. Both Dragon Balls and Will Strike if Provoked have a shot to take over the 25th spot if they can end with a cumulative score above 197.839. The teams currently have scores of 197.535 and 197.464, respectively.
Anyone up for the challenge?
Back in the Fall 2004 season, four bowlers – Scott Murdock, Seth Gunderson, Nik Domann, and Demond Robinson – put on a clinic after the position round. Over the last eight weeks of the season they put up an unprecedented 26-6 record, which still stands to this day as the best second-half record in league history. Anyone up for the challenge? You have six weeks left.

ODDITIES & STRAIGHT UP NUMBERS:

Epic Ass Whooping
To put it into perspective how impressive Kody Karnes' 710 was Tuesday night, look no further than this: his team, whose second highest series that night was 465, managed to end the night with a 3-1 matchup victory over Snakes on a Lane. Whoopty doo, right? Well, let's look at it a little closer. All three bowlers that were present (Carl, Ian, and Ken) all shot 600+ and put up the 5th highest team series of all time in league history...and only won a single game. Kody killed 'em, pure and simple.
