A listing (from most current to furthest back) of any write-up posts in which Nathan has been mentioned:
- Yoink! (Dec 3rd, 2024) - After last week's tentacular setback, most people and cephalopods assumed this would be the week Squid Row would finally clinch the championship. But a surprising twist partially instigated by Bowls Deep kept the championship just out of reach once again. JoAnne Barber lit up the lanes with a fierce 154 game and a 401 series for the woman, while Nick Kinney’s 232 game and 608 series crowned him king of the men’s leaderboard. The Tournament of Champions is now down to its final eight bowlers, who will clash next week for glory and cash prizes. But first, let’s dive into this week’s battles!
- Gobble Gobbowl (Nov 26th, 2024) - The crisp autumn air was filled with anticipation, as the annual Thanksgiving bowling tournament commenced. The ancient alleys, lit by flickering torchlight, witnessed heroic feats and heart-wrenching defeats. The pins, much like the freshly harvested corn, stood ready to be knocked down, and the teams came prepared to write history in the annals of the game. One pilgrim set a new personal best series. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (144) and series (390) for the woman, while Dustin Schmeltz earned this week's high game (232) and series (578) for the men.
- Second Place is Tasting Tangy (Nov 19th, 2024) - The thirteenth week of Fall 2024 turned out to be a rollercoaster of triumph and heartbreak, where strikes lit up the lanes and gutter balls cast long shadows. One bowler achieved a career-defining moment, and the competition saw seismic shifts in the standings. JoAnne Barber captured the woman’s high game (143) and series (384), while Dennis Walling stole the spotlight for the men with a blazing high game (223) and series (580). And while we were all distracted Scootytang -- a team that had been in dead last only five ago -- has been quietly creeping up the standings and tonight reclaimed a second-place position.
- Week 11 RoboRecap (Nov 5th, 2024) - A sparsely-attended eleventh week of Fall 2024 saw one team climb in the standings, while two teams slipped. One bowler set a new personal best series. Seth Gunderson snagged this week's high game with a 212, and high series was earned by Ben Spencer with a 577. Scooter is too depressed and horrified to do a proper writeup this week, and if he did it would just be a rehash of the November 9, 2016 recap. So read on here for the current stats, then go read that one to see some cute pictures to get your mind off current events.
- The Halloween Episode: Murders on the Lanes (Oct 29th, 2024) - The haunting Halloween week of Fall 2024 brought a chill over the league as bowlers took to the lanes under a shadow of suspense. JoAnne Barber braved the eerie tension, snagging this week's high game (134) and series (369) for the woman, while Aaron Barber claimed the men’s high game with a hair-raising 240 and Seth Gunderson’s wicked high series of 623 was nothing short of legendary. But amid the celebrations, bowlers whispered of a masked figure prowling the alley. One by one, they began to vanish...
- Bottoms Up (Oct 22nd, 2024) - The ninth week of Fall 2024 saw some flips happen in the bottom portion of the standings. JoAnne Barber dazzled with this week’s high game (138) and series (405) for the woman, keeping the non-existent competition on their non-existent toes. Meanwhile, for the men, Seth Gunderson brought the heat with a stellar 247 high game, and Matthew Taylor dominated with a high series of 626. Read on for all the flipping details, and check of your bingo results too!
- Split Happens (Oct 15th, 2024) - We are now halfway through the Fall 2024 season, and an electrifying eighth week brought no changes to the standings—but the drama on the lanes was palpable! Tension ran high as two matches ended in split results, and one battle saw a staggering number of actual splits, keeping bowlers on edge. JoAnne Barber delivered this week’s top game (152) and series (409) for the women, while Ben Spencer dominated for the men with a high game of 228 and a commanding 614 series. The excitement didn't stop there—read on for all the details and check out your bingo results too!
- Did you hear the parking lot is closed? (Oct 8th, 2024) - A seventh week of Fall 2024 bowling that seemed destined for mundane mediocrity was anything but ordinary, and since Scoot wasn't there to see what actually happened he's letting BowlingBot run free with its imagination for this recap. The air crackled with tension, tension that began out on the street where bowlers brawled and threatened each other over limited parking spaces. As the pent-up hostilities spilled onto the lanes, the standings stubbornly refused to shift. Still, Matthew Taylor's thunderous 248 game and 651 series was a bright spot, marking his reign over the night. Yet, the real drama unfolded beneath the surface, as each team clawed for dominance in a battle of strikes and spares. Read on for the thrilling, albeit somewhat chaotic, details!
- Topsy-Turvy (Oct 1st, 2024) - The sixth week of Fall 2024 brought intense competition, dramatic comebacks, and heart-wrenching defeats, as the league standings experienced a seismic shift. With the exception of Squid Row, seemingly inknoculated against any ill-effects from a major loss, every team experienced a large swing in the standings. Three teams surged forward, fueled by fiery determination, while two others found themselves slipping down the ranks, unable to fend off their rivals. Personal records fell, excitement soared, and the emotional highs and lows of league bowling were on full display. JoAnne Barber's high game of 128 and series of 340 secured her the top spot for the woman, while Matthew Taylor’s powerhouse performance earned him a high game of 252 and series of 624 for the men. But that was only the beginning—let's dive into the thrilling details!
- Debatably Good Bowling (Sep 10th, 2024) - The third week of Fall 2024 rolled in with anticipation, as one team soared to new heights and another tumbled down the standings. JoAnne Barber made waves with this week’s high game (126) and series (347) for the woman, while Matthew Taylor took center stage for the men with a high game (238) and series (614). Meanwhile, the Tournament of Champions divisions are locked and loaded, ready to bring head-to-head showdowns next week! Let’s dive into the play-by-play drama of this week's matchups.

There is still time to submit roster changes, but for the time being all six teams seem to be the same as last time with two exceptions: Ray Scott is sitting this season out, and Nick Kinney is replacing Michael Gordon. Please get team names and any other roster changes to us by this weekend, and if anyone else wants to bowl who did not bowl last season, let Scoot or AJ know ASAP so we can find you a spot! (Reminder: Scoot is out of town most of next week so please try to finalize things by this weekend.)
- Spring 2024 Recap (Jun 1st, 2024) - Here is your Spring 2024 Recap, where you can find out who won all the individual awards plus lots more! Our next season will begin on August 27 2024!
- Season #50 is Nearly Over! (Apr 30th, 2024) - We're closing in on the conclusion of our 50th bowling season, with only two weeks left to go (and only one that counts). While the standings remained as sturdy as a stubborn 10-pin that refused to fall despite rocking to the limits of the laws of physics, the battle on the lanes was anything but predictable. Except, predictably, JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (159) and series (422) for the women. Not as predictable, Seth Gunderson earned this week's high game (258) and series (633) for the men that some might eye with a bit of an asterisk due to being pre-bowled but it was all on the up and up. Meanwhile, Tournament of Champions is officially down to its final eight bowlers, who each win extra cash and will face each other next week competing for two even bigger cash prizes! Oh, and lest we forget, somebody (not Seth) achieved a new personal best game and series. Read on to find out who!
- The Cheese Stick Curse (Feb 27th, 2024) - In the thrilling sixth week of our bowling league, the lanes buzzed with excitement as teams clashed, jockeying for position in the standings. It was a showcase of skill and determination, with standout performances leaving spectators on the edge of their seats. The spotlight shone brightly on JoAnne Barber and Seth Gunderson, who dazzled with their exceptional bowling prowess. JoAnne claimed the title of this week's queen of the lanes, securing the high game (143) and series (350) for the woman, while Seth asserted his dominance with a stellar high game (238) and series (562) for the men, solidifying his status as a force to be reckoned with.
- Pre-Valentine Love on the Lanes (Feb 13th, 2024) - In the realm of high scores and sweet victories, JoAnne Barber stole the hearts of the bowling alley with her cupid-approved high game (132) and series (377) for the women. On the men's side, the charismatic duo of Kent Harms and Nick Kinney shared a love-struck tie for this week's high game with a swoon-worthy 212. However, it was Nick Kinney who emerged as the true bowling heartthrob, earning the high series title with an impressive 602
- Ties Abound after Brutal Beatings (Feb 6th, 2024) - Brutal beatings of the underdogs by the stronger teams in all three matchups coincidentally resulted in three pairs of ties in the standings. One person rolled a new personal best game. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (142) and series (408) for the woman. As for the men, AJ Hofmann snagged this week's high game with a 235, and high series was earned by an overstimulated Michael Gordon with a 574. And the Tournament of Champions divisions are now set, ready for one-on-one action to begin next week! Read on for all the rest of the details!
- It was the Worst of Times, it was the Worst of Times. (Oct 24th, 2023) - Let's face it, last night sucked. I don't know if it was the weather, geopolitical concerns, not enough relaxing pharmaceuticals partaken of before crossing the state line, or Ron putting the oil machine on the "Torture Pattern" setting as a joke, but it has been years since we've seen such an off night all across the board.
- Cox: "Suckers!" (Sep 19th, 2023) - The fourth week of Fall 2023 brought thunderous applause and roaring excitement to the bowling lanes, with strikes and spares painting the alley in vibrant hues of victory and camaraderie. While some teams soared to new heights, others grappled with the challenge of maintaining their positions. It was a night of personal bests, thrilling showdowns, and unforgettable moments.
In the realm of fierce competition, JoAnne Barber emerged as the undisputed queen of the evening, leaving everyone in awe with her remarkable performance. With grace and precision, she defied all odds and claimed the crown for the highest game (133) and series (365) among the women bowlers. It wasn't just a victory; it was a masterclass in bowling finesse that left spectators in awe. And let's not forget the countless women JoAnne had to out-bowl to secure her title—a true testament to her prowess!
Speaking of remarkable achievements, Seth Gunderson proved that the lanes were his canvas, and he was the artist creating a masterpiece. With a colossal high game of 242 and an astonishing series of 562, Seth was a force to be reckoned with among the bowlers with 5 appendages. His performance was nothing short of a bowling symphony, leaving the pins trembling in his wake.
As the lanes sizzled with action, the stage was set for the Tournament of Champions, a thrilling extravaganza that promises 13 weeks of one-on-one bowling battles. It's a journey that promises to test the mettle of every bowler and leave the spectators (aka Kenny, Joe, Nick, and Ron) on the edge of their seats.
- Fin-tastic Dolphins Flip The Standings (Sep 12th, 2023) - Apart from a few weeks in 5th place in the first half of Fall 2022, Sun Dolphins have always found themselves stranded on the ocean floor. And they have certainly never had a winning record at any point in their history. But all of that changed last night, when they leapt from the waves and not only got out of dead last, they sailed all the way to second place with a 7-5 record -- their first winning record ever!
Two bowlers set a new personal best series. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (144) and series (369) for the woman, while Matthew Taylor earned this week's high game (278) and series (685) for the men. And the Tournament of Champions divisions are now set, ready for one-on-one action to begin next week! Read on for all the rest of the details!
- Now Officially Average (Sep 5th, 2023) - Last week several bowlers were absent due to either travel or being the odd man out on a team of 5, but after this week everyone has finally set an average. So barring any new random subs, next week everyone will know their game results live.
This week we saw one bowler set a new personal best series, albeit with a bit of an asterisk as will be explained in a bit. JoAnne Barber miraculously picked up this week's high game (129) and series (338) for the women. As for the men, Seth Gunderson snagged this week's high game with a 209, and high series was earned by Matthew Taylor with a 579. Read on for all the rest of the details!
- Bowl-a-Palooza '23 Kicks Off (Aug 29th, 2023) - Due to shortage of time and me not having been there to see what actually went down, this week's recap (including all imagery) is AI-generated.
