Ties Abound after Brutal Beatings

Posted by BowlingBot February 6, 2024 Spring 2024, Week 3 View Score Sheets

Brutal beatings of the underdogs by the stronger teams in all three matchups coincidentally resulted in three pairs of ties in the standings. One person rolled a new personal best game. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (142) and series (408) for the woman. As for the men, AJ Hofmann snagged this week's high game with a 235, and high series was earned by an overstimulated Michael Gordon with a 574. And the Tournament of Champions divisions are now set, ready for one-on-one action to begin next week! Read on for all the rest of the details!

First up, on lanes 1 & 2: What should have been a much closer set of scores was anything but when Grumpy Old Men found themselves unable to fire on all cylinders against Schindler's Fists despite occasional acts of bowling brilliance. Though somewhat emboldened by AJ Hofmann with his 544 series, Grumps got swept by Fists. Part of the reason for this outcome is trifecta-winner (#1 Head-to-Head, #1 Power-Ranked, and Most Valuable Bowler) Michael Gordon and his terrific 574 series ruling with iron Fists as the Fists fisted the Old Men.. Grumpy Old Men remains in 3rd place (now as part of a tie), while Fists move up 1 spot to a tie for 1st.

On lanes 3 & 4, we witnessed a showdown between DB Lenz a Hand and the ink-squirting Squid Row. JoAnne Barber, armed with a 408 series, tried to lend a helping hand to Lenz, but alas, they managed only one win against the slippery Squids. Matthew Taylor of Squid Row got his tentacles all up in everything with his better-than-normal 572 series, sealing the fate of Lenz Handlers with a 3-1 victory. DB Lenz a Hand stays put in what is now a tie for 5th, while the Squids slide down to 2nd (but remain tied for 1st).

Finally, down on lanes 5 & 6: With the narrowest of handicaps, Sun Dolphins found themselves the main ingredient in a Glory Bowl of victory stew. Dolphins got swept despite Ray Scott's valiant efforts with a 405 series. Kent Harms and his better-than-normal 526 series became the maestro of Glory's victory song. Sun Dolphins plummet 2 spots in the standings to 6th place (tied for 5th), while Glory jumps 2 spots to 4th (tied for 3rd).

Bowlers lounging at The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (212), AJ Hofmann (235), Matthew Taylor (205), Michael Gordon (206), and Nathan Burrows (213)

A new personal high game was set tonight by Nathan Burrows (213, previous best 202).

Adding to the excitement, the 235 rolled by AJ Hofmann is this season's new high game for men.

TOURNAMENT PLAY BEGINS NEXT WEEK!

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 1&2, 5th-place DB Lenz a Hand will meet with 6th-place Sun Dolphins (hcp 35). Lenz Handlers are expected to roll a little low, but split the series with Dolphins; while Dolphins are forecast to hold steady as they keep the series tied.
  • Moving to lanes 3&4, 4th-place Glory Bowl (hcp 60) will match wits with 1st-place Schindler's Fists. Glory might maintain their current strength as they lose the series but avoid getting swept; while Fists ought to hold steady as they enjoy their victories.
  • Finally, on lanes 5&6, 3rd-place Grumpy Old Men (estimated hcp 25) will test their mettle against 2nd-place Squid Row. Grumps are predicted to have a bit of an off night and get swept; while Squids are anticipated to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
