The Fall 2018 bowling season got off to a glitchy start, but with two subs filling in the gaps this was also the largest opening-night turnout in quite some time! Ten teams entered the 16-week competition for the coveted, nonexistent championship trophy, among them ten rookies and only one opening-night Vacancy! (more...) Read More →
37 seasons of bowling are now complete, and after a bit of a drop off last Fall we bounced right back this Spring up to great games and great series. (more...) Read More →
The Spring 2018 season draws to a close, with WITNESS!!! officially earning this season's championship title last week. But we aren't quite finished yet -- next week we will meet at our usual time to name all the award winners and hand out prize money (in the meeting room on the Finnegan's side, through the back of the snack bar), followed by 9-pin-tap fun night. All hope for a mathematically-difficult upset by any of the three teams in position to unseat the reigning champs quickly went up in flames last night, as WITNESS!!! lit up enough wins to clinch the championship outright. This makes 11 championships for Seth Gunderson, 6 for Jonathan Vigliaturo, 3 (consecutive) for Aaron Barber, and 2 (consecutive) for Nick Kinney. Congratulations, guys! Now get to work on your awards night presentation! (more...) Read More →
(NOTE: Due to Scoot being unusually busy this week, we are sticking with the computer-generated recap for this week.) The fourteenth week of Spring 2018 saw two teams climb in the standings (including one all but written off team that has leapfrogged into second place), while two teams slipped. One bowler set a new personal best series. Freda Schroeder picked up this week's high game (190) and series (522) for the women. As for the men, Aaron Barber and Michael Mead both tied for this week's high... (more...)
While the standings didn't change at all tonight, quite a lot actually happened. Before we get into the big story of the night, we will take a moment to remember some of the other people who accomplished things tonight. Monica Hufford picked up this week's high game (188) and series (474) for the women. As for the men, Dennis Walling snagged this week's high game with a score that we'll get to in a moment. High series was earned by Kody Karnes with a 699. Read on for all the rest of the details! ... (more...)
Until last week, Mary Janes Last Frame had been suffering. They hadn't had a winning week since February 13, so it was good to see their fortunes finally turn last week and continue this week. However, more noteworthy, MJ is also the only team that is consistently tripping up Witness!!!. Their 7-1 record against Witness (making Mary Jane the only team with a winning record against the first-place team) makes one wonder how the championship might turn out if Mary Jane can somehow rally enough... The only movement in the standings this week came when two teams in the middle of the standings traded places. Angela Bradford picked up this week's high game (191) and series (556) for the women, while Aubrey Moren earned this week's high game (248) and series (672) for the men. As we enter the back side of the season, we find the standings constipated with absolutely no movement. One bowler set a new personal best series, and one rolled new personal high game, and one of those two also set an inauspicious league record. Angela Bradford picked up this week's high game (224) and series (562) for the women, while Aaron Barber earned this week's high game (245) and series (638) for the men. The Spring 2018 position round is now history, and the championship will be on us before we know it! This week we saw two teams move up in the rankings, while three teams were left muttering about how to impeach league President Scott Murdock who was absent for an unprecedented 102nd time visiting one of his favorite bars. Taking advantage of the first day of Spring, one bowler set a new personal best series, and two rolled new personal high games. Monica Hufford landed this week's high game for... (more...)
By now every team has bowled each other once, so next week is the Spring 2018 position round. So, remember, no new subs next week! But enough about next week, you came here to read about this week. (more...) Read More →
For most of us, last night was a bit of an off night. Only a few of us hit our averages consistently, and many of us were well below our norms. The problem might have been that Matthew Taylor sucked up everybody's mojo so he could roll his first (and this season's first) 700+ series! While he as doing that, one team climbed in the standings and another team slipped. Emily Nicolet picked up this week's high game (147) and series (369) for the women, while Matthew Taylor unsurprisingly earned... (more...)
A delayed fifth week of bowling saw two teams climb in the standings, while two teams slipped. One of the teams that climbed, defending champions WITNESS!!!, has reclaimed a razor-thin first-place standing. Angela Bradford picked up this week's high game (231) and series (540) for the women, while Aaron Barber earned this week's high game (234) and series (685) for the men. The the Tournament of Champions kicked off tonight, beginning of 13 weeks of one-on-one bowling excitement! But it got off to a rocky start, with two divisions performing so poorly that they didn't produce a winner this week. Two teams climbed in the standings, while two teams slipped. Monica Hufford picked up this week's high game (168) and series (490) for the women, while Russell Bingham earned this week's high game (265) and series (650) for the men. "This was a really good week of bowling. Ridiculously good. Huge scores. Big numbers. The biggest. Bigly." Okay, easy there Donald, it wasn't the biggest. But it was actually really close. Overall, this was the sixth hightest-rolliing week in league history. If that doesn't sound impressive, consider this: We have 522 weeks of bowling scores recorded, and out of 522 weeks, only 5 of those weeks posted higher scores across the board than we did last night. Spring 2018 began tonight with a welcome to a few new bowlers, a defending champion team that is going to have to fend off multiple challengers, and several bowlers who forgot they were supposed to sandbag. Consequently, two bowlers set a new personal best series, and three rolled new personal high games. Angela Bradford picked up this week's high game (185) and series (481) for the women, while Matthew Taylor earned this week's high game (254) and series (641) for the men. Read on for all the...
