Fall 2015 is in The Books!

Posted by ScooterJ December 15, 2015 Fall 2015, Week 16 View Score Sheets

With 32 seasons of bowling now behind us, the Fall 2015 season ended tonight as the 4th best season in league history. Both in terms of combined league average and in terms of the number (206) of 200+ games rolled. Congratulations, everyone, on a great season!BEFORE WE GET ON WITH THE WRITEUP, BE SURE TO VOTE FOR YOUR END OF SEASON FAVORITES! AND JOIN US ON DEC 22 FOR PRIZE MONEY AND FUN WEEK!Since no teams changed positions in the standings, the rundown of the matchups will also double as a rundown of the final rankings.

First up, on lanes 41 & 42: Salt Water Taffy had no need to defend their 1st place title against Stephen Hawking's Dance Club. Thanks to Ian Goetz and his 629 series, Salt Water Taffy managed their one and only post-clinch win. Russell Bingham's 628 series led Stephen Hawking's Dance Club to 3 wins. Salt Water Taffy remains in 1st place, while Stephen Hawking's Dance Club remains in 2nd.

Salt Water Taffy is a team that had been evolving over many seasons, experimenting with various combinations of bowlers, always with great success -- they have been in one of the top two spots in each of the past five seasons. They have maintained their current roster for three seasons so far. While Ian and Jonathan joined the league in 2010 and 2011 respectively, Seth and Carl are very old blood, having been with the league since 2000 and 2001.

Stephen Hawking's Dance Club is a team that's half rookie, half young blood. With 4 seasons under his belt now Michael Gordon is the team's most seasoned member, with Russell joining last spring. Matt and Brian both proved to be smart additions to their team. When asked what they enjoyed most about this season, Matt replied that it was just last week when they swept the newly crowned champions and the ball return suddenly started to disintegrate. While neither Matt nor Brian will be able to join us in the Spring, both vow to return next Fall.

On lanes 43 & 44: A back from the brink of death Aubrey Moren led Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! to one win against Hold My Beer, Watch This with a 631 series. Kody Karnes and his 675 series landed Hold My Beer 3 wins. Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! remains in 3rd place, while Hold My Beer, Watch This remains in 4th.

While their name changes from time to time, Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! is the league's most stable team. Except for one season when Freda was out with a shoulder injury, they have maintained essentially the same roster since Spring 2008. They've won the title four times since finding their winning combination. While Aubrey joined us in 2008, the rest of the team has been with us since 1999-2000 ... the very beginning of the league. Everyone on this team is at or near the top of virtually every record list we keep!Hold My Beer, Watch This was a team put together for two purposes: (1) To make it up to Kody for his team falling apart on him last season, and (2) To shift some bowlers around so that we could bring in all of this season's rookies in a way that all of them would be places with veteran members. Purpose #1 nearly fell apart when Dan Imperial took a new job a third of the way through the season, but Jake Parrott stepped up to seamlessly fill the gap. While Jake will not be with us next season due to a future bowler currently growing within his wife, he said that he really felt like part of the team this season and appreciated being taken in despite accidentally setting an average 30 pins above his usual abilities when he subbed for another team in week 1.

On lanes 45 & 46, the always halved Split It & Hit It rolled with404: Team Name Not Found. Dennis Blake rolled a 555 series to bag 3 wins against 404. Sean Miller's 488 series, helped 404 at least get one win. Split It & Hit It remains in 5th place, while 404: Team Name Not Found remains in 6th.

Split It & Hit It is another of the league's most stable teams. They joined the league in Fall 2012 and have kept the same name and shirts ever since. Until Matt Bunyard left midway through the Fall 2014 season, the team essentially operated as a 5-man team, rotating the 5th man throughout as a sub when needed ... which has always been often. Since Matt's departure it's been rare to see all four members present at any given time, but they persevere and are always a fun opponent. Todd Way will not be joining them this Spring, auditions are now underway for a new member to don the shirt!404: Team Name Not Found is what happens when Scoot adopted half of the rookies and thought that somehow it would be less confusing to have both Seans on the same team. In doing so, he failed to notice that one of them had the same initials as him, so spent much of the season attempting to bowl out-of-turn. Newcomer Sean Simmons noted that our league is both challenging and also a lot of fun, while Zach Cross enjoys the beer. Especially Tipsy Tuesday at Zoo Bar after bowling. (Again, that's Zoo Bar, 1220 McGee, just 1/2 block north of the Sprint Center. Free evening parking. Cheap drinks. Try the mini beer. Every Tuesday after bowling. Tip the bartender well.) Despite ending with a losing record this team is returning intact this Spring and plans to try to bowl better.

Finally, down on lanes 47 & 48: Chelsie Finger rolled a 424 series to help It's A Trap! get a sweep against the blind team. It's A Trap! remains in 7th place, while Ray & Stevie remains in 8th.

It's A Trap! came about when a rookie from last season (Dennis Cummings) recruited his significant other and two of her friends to join the league. While they finished last among the actual humans i the league, with a 27-37 record they are easily the best last place team, by a wide margin, in all 32 seasons of our history. While the Cummings will not be returning this Spring, Andrew and Chelsie have decided to stay and are hoping to find two fun bowlers to join them. (Being good is a bonus too, but not necessary!) Their favorite memory from this season? That Dennis and Meghan both improved significantly after Dennis stopped wearing his glasses and then Meghan decided to put his glasses on!Ray and Stevie is a team that joined the league back in 2010, then vanished until this season. We're not sure why the returned, since they almost never win. These fellas seem to be a waste of space so we kind of hope they won't be back this Spring. The Tournament of Champions came to an end tonight, with Matt O'Dell winning first place and Dennis Blake coming in second. Congratulations, fellas, you both get fat cash next week!Bowlers rolling the final The 200 Club this week include: Aaron Barber (216,200), Aubrey Moren (216,224), Carl Goetz (207,203,216), Dennis Blake (200), Freda Schroeder (200), Ian Goetz (237,228), Kody Karnes (207,234,234), Matt O'Dell (228,214), Michael Gordon (206), Phil Schroeder (204), Russell Bingham (205,213,210), and Seth Gunderson (200)SEASON INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:These people also all get extra cash next week...Women's High Series Scratch – Freda Schroeder (532)Women's High Game Scratch – Chelsie Finger (178)Women's High Series Handicap – Meghan Cummings (631)Women's High Game Handicap - No one, as there were only 3 females on the roster this seasonMen's High Series Scratch – Ian Goetz (709)Men's High Game Scratch - Kody Karnes (268)Men's High Series Handicap – Brian Walsh (698)Men's High Game Handicap – Phil Schroder (282)Prize money will be handed out next week at our semi-annual Fun Night, followed by 9-pin tap.BE SURE TO VOTE FOR THE END-OF-SEASON FAVORITES!
