Hall of Famer: Angela Bradford

Angela "AB" Bradford was inducted into the GutterAlley Hall of Fame in its inaugural class during the Spring 2011 season.

Having the honor of being the very first league president, AB has been a part of the league since its actual inception at the tail end of 1999. Throughout her career on the lanes she has earned – and still currently holds – the top spot on every single individual achievement for women including highest series scratch, highest series handicap, highest game scratch, highest game handicap, most pins over average and highest average. Simply put, Angela Bradford is the greatest female bowler in the league's history. She was an integral part of three championship teams, winning the title in the Spring 2000, Fall 2000 and Spring 2009 seasons. A perennial league favorite with the end of the season awards, Angela has been named: Captain of the Season four times, received the Bobby Brunker Good Sportsmanship Award in the Spring 2008 season and was the league's Actual: Most Valuable Bowler in the Spring 2005 season.

Quotes about Angela from members of the league:

"AB holds the #1 spot on e-v-e-r-y single individual record for women and was the mad scientist behind forming the very first VML bowling league back in the Spring of 2000. If not for her, none of us would equate Tuesday nights with bowling. For that, I thank her dearly."

"A key founder; without her the league probably would not have been a recurring thing. Also tops every category among female bowlers."

"Consistently one of the highest averaged bowlers in our league and always the highest woman bowler. A bowler who comes through in the clutch."

And from the inductee herself...

1. What is your personal favorite memory from all your years in the league?

There are so many. Beating Ken is always a favorite, although it hardly happens. Although one that stands out was when I actually bowled with Ken, Deena and Janelle. The Blueballers was our name, and I think we won the league by a large margin. All of my teams have been a lot of fun, but my all time favorite team was Recreation Intoxication which was made up of Pat, Bob, Deena and me. I’ve never laughed and joked around so much on the lanes…but the amazing part was we would actually win while doing it!

2. What is it about this league that continued to bring you back season after season?

I get to bowl with my family. All I need is my dad to join the league and I would see them all every week! I also enjoy getting to see other VMLers outside the office. You get to see a whole new side of them, except for Heistand, he’s so laid back outside the office.

3. What does it mean for you to be inducted into the Hall of Fame?

It means that Ken did a great job rallying for it! It means that I’ll be remembered as being part of starting this darn league when it was just four ladies from accounting that formed a team and joined a league. Then we moved to three teams that joined a league. The first official VML league I think was six or eight teams of 2 and it grew from there. We sometimes have a hard time fielding a league, but it’s great seeing all the new people join in our fun!
