Can I Get a Witness!!!?

Posted by ScooterJ February 27, 2018 Spring 2018, Week 5 View Score Sheets

A delayed fifth week of bowling saw two teams climb in the standings, while two teams slipped. One of the teams that climbed, defending champions WITNESS!!!, has reclaimed a razor-thin first-place standing. Angela Bradford picked up this week's high game (231) and series (540) for the women, while Aaron Barber earned this week's high game (234) and series (685) for the men. Read on for all the rest of the details!

Brian Byfield's cross-lanes incident tonight might not have been quite this cool, but it was still impressive.

First up, on lanes 3 & 4: Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! had a rendezvous with WITNESS!!!. Despite being led by Aubrey Moren, off a bit with his below-average 516 series, the Sandbaggers got swept by Witness!!!. Conversely, trifecta-winner (#1 Head-to-Head, #1 Power-Ranked, and Most Valuable Bowler) Aaron Barber showed off for Witness!!! with his better-than-normal 685 as they swept the competition. Holy Sandbaggers, Batman! remains in 5th place, while Witness!!! jumps 2 spots to 1st.

On lanes 5 & 6: In a pairing of well-matched rivals, PBR Me, ASAP accepted a challenge by Three Strikes and a Spare. Despite a show of strength by Jeremy Varnell and Josh Rothermel with their combined 370 series (just kidding, they tied), PBR accomplished only 1 win against Three Strikes. Over in the other realm, Monica Hufford commanded Three Strikes with her 464 as her team took the series with 3 wins. PBR Me, ASAP remains in 6th place, while Three Strikes move 1 spot to 7th.

On lanes 7 & 8: HOF Sandwich debated whether to go all Tonya Harding on Sit Down, Be Humbowl. Starring "newcomer" Kody Karnes with his 563 series, the Sandwich collected 3 wins against Humbowl. In the meantime, Steven Anthony called the shots for Humbowl with his slightly-off 468 despite his team notching only a single win. HOF Sandwich remains in 4th place, while Humbowl sinks 1 spot to 8th.

AJ tends to his wound after Jeremy broke a pencil over his head while we were entering scores.

Finally, down on lanes 9 & 10: In a gathering of similar team averages, Mary Janes Last Frame chucked gutter balls with Splitbowl Countries. In spite of the leadership of Dennis Walling with his below-average 533 series, Mary Jane accomplished only 1 win against Splitbowl. On the other half of the score sheet, Matthew Taylor took charge of Splitbowl with his 588 as his team took the series with 3 wins. Mary Janes Last Frame plummets 2 spots in the standings to 3rd place, while Splitbowl remains in 2nd.

Bowlers who sneaked in the employee entrance of The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (228,223,234), Angela Bradford (231), Kody Karnes (202), Matthew Taylor (218), Michael Mead (202), Russell Bingham (202), and Seth Gunderson (203)

The 231 rolled by Angela Bradford is this season's new high game among women.

The 231 rolled by Angela Bradford is tied for the 7th-best women's game in league history!

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Aaron Barber crushed Division 1, while Phil Schroeder dominated Division 2. Jonathan Vigliaturo vanquished Division 3, and Emily Nicolet ruled Division 4. In terms of overall points: Aaron Barber governs Division 1; Phil Schroeder dominates Division 2; Ben Spencer runs the show in Division 3; and Pat Hamell, Josh Rothermel, and Emily Nicolet lead Division 4 in a tie.

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 3&4, 2nd-place Splitbowl Countries (hcp 2) will throw some gutter balls with 4th-place HOF Sandwich. Splitbowl is expected to perform well and win the series; while the Sandwich is forecast to drop their average a bit while they avoid getting swept.
  • Moving to lanes 5&6, 8th-place Sit Down, Be Humbowl (hcp 103) will socialize with 3rd-place Mary Janes Last Frame. Humbowl might see their averages fall off a cliff as they get swept; while Mary Jane ought to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.
  • Then, over on lanes 7&8, 6th-place PBR Me, ASAP (hcp 190) will face 1st-place WITNESS!!!. PBR will likely have a bit of an off night and get swept; while Witness!!! will probably raise their average while they rack up a sweep.
  • Finally, on lanes 9&10, 7th-place Three Strikes and a Spare (hcp 116) will chuck some balls with 5th-place Holy Sandbaggers, Batman!. Three Strikes are predicted to roll a little low and get swept; while the Sandbaggers are anticipated to raise their average while they rack up a sweep.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
