We are now halfway through the Fall 2026 season, which means the championship race has officially reached the stage where every team is either making a move, making excuses, or quietly wondering how there are still eight more weeks of this nonsense. Week 8 delivered one climb in the standings, one tumble, a pair of personal milestones, and enough hot bowling to make the pins consider filing for workers' compensation. I'm Alotta Tenpin, reporting from the sidelines with the latest developments, questionable analysis, and the solemn responsibility of making all of this sound much more dramatic than it probably was. JoAnne Barber captured the women's high game with 165 and high series with 434, while Matthew Taylor led the men with a 202 game and 513 series. Jesse Sauerbrei established new personal bests in both game and series. So grab your score sheet, your lucky bowling socks, and possibly a snack for the emotional support portion of the evening, because Week 8 had plenty to talk about. And don't forget to check this week's bingo results.
First up on lanes 1 and 2, BowlJobs apparently decided that if they were going to have a job, they might as well do it extremely well. BowlJobs swept all three games and then took the series as the fourth game, leaving The Queenpins to wonder where exactly the royal cavalry had gone. Chris Hagan was a major contributor, finishing with a 424 series that was comfortably above his 131 average and included the team's high game of 150. Kurt Fredrickson also deserves credit for turning his night around after a rough opening game and following it with a pair of strong performances. Mike Fitzgerald opened with an impressive 146 before his evening became considerably more complicated. And then there was Brian Schaben, who was conspicuously absent while vacationing in Italy and nursing bone injuries. Brian, if you're reading this from somewhere surrounded by Italian architecture, wine, and people wondering why some weird American is complaining about his skeleton, please take care of yourself. The bowling league will still be here when your bones have finished their Italian sabbatical. Hagan, wearing his familiar ball cap, had plenty to celebrate. "We won all four, so I guess we earned our BJs tonight," Chris Hagan said. That's the kind of job satisfaction BowlJobs can get behind. The clean sweep moves BowlJobs up one spot to 5th place.
The Queenpins were already facing an uphill climb, and then apparently half the royal court decided to take the evening off. Lindsay Sargent and Todd Kasik were both absent, while Jon Little had pre-bowled his games the night before and therefore wasn't physically present tonight either. I hope Lindsay and Todd are both doing well, because when multiple members of a bowling team disappear on the same night, I immediately begin imagining an emergency room, a family reunion, a mysterious road trip, or possibly all three. Despite the depleted lineup, Little's pre-bowled performance gave the Queenpins something substantial to hang their crown on: his 508 series included the team's high game of 191. Ryan Sisco had a tougher evening, and the team simply couldn't match the relentless production coming from BowlJobs. "Apparently my 191 needed to come with three more people attached to it," Jon Little said. That's a perfectly reasonable complaint, although I'm not sure the league's rules committee is prepared to start allowing additional bowlers to be attached to individual scores. The Queenpins were swept in all four games and slip one spot to 6th place.
On lanes 3 and 4, Fist My Bump
discovered that sometimes you can bring plenty of ammunition to a bowling match and still get outgunned. One Woman, Three Excuses swept all three games and the series, but the Bump crew did produce some individual fireworks. Scott Murdock led the team with a 455 series, well above his 140 average, including a strong 173. AJ Hofmann saved his best game for the finish, while Jim Koger also rallied late with a 152. Those performances kept the evening from becoming a complete disaster, but they weren't enough to stop the sweep. "I wore a bright green shirt, so clearly I did my part to improve the team's visibility," Scott Murdock said. I cannot argue with that logic. Fist My Bump remains in 2nd place, meaning the championship dream is still very much alive despite tonight's four-game disappointment.
One Woman, Three Excuses apparently decided that the best way to avoid making excuses was to simply win everything. They did exactly that, sweeping Fist My Bump in all four games. Chris Lenz was the statistical wrecking ball, finishing with a 468 series and an extraordinary 187 game that was 56 pins above his average -- the largest over-average game of the night. That performance made his #1 Power-Ranked designation look particularly appropriate. JoAnne Barber supplied the women's high game of 165 and a 434 series, while Jesse Sauerbrei had a night worthy of breaking out the imaginary champagne: his 156 was a new personal-best league game and his 375 was a new personal-best series. Barber earned the #1 Head-to-Head honor, while Sauerbrei collected the Most Valuable Bowler award. Barber, recognizable by her long black hair and by being one of the few bowlers present tonight with boobs, was one of the team's key contributors as the scoring climbed higher and higher. "We figured if we kept winning games, eventually we'd run out of excuses for everyone else," Chris Lenz said. That strategy appears to have worked. One Woman, Three Excuses remain in 3rd place after a four-game sweep and one of the strongest performances of the night.
Finally, on lanes 5 and 6, Squid Row tangled with Rat & Roll, and the matchup delivered the evening's most entertaining back-and-forth battle. Rat & Roll captured the opening game, but Squid Row answered by taking Games 2 and 3 before the Rats came back with the series. Matthew Taylor provided the night's biggest headline, finishing with a 513 series and the men's high game of 202. But Taylor's evening apparently began before he ever reached the bowling alley, because on his way to the lanes he encountered some stray puppies, rescued them, and then spent part of the evening trying to find them homes. That's right: while most bowlers are warming up their shoulders before league, Matt Taylor was apparently running an impromptu animal-rescue operation. Matthew Taylor's bowling was already impressive enough without adding "part-time puppy adoption coordinator" to his résumé. Scott Thompson also produced a major surge in the middle of the match, while Dennis Walling improved as the evening progressed. Ben Spencer had a quieter night by his usual standards, but the Squids recovered beautifully after dropping the opener. "I was just trying to get the puppies somewhere safe before I worried about the bowling," Matthew Taylor said. Honestly, I have covered a lot of bowling, and that is one of the better excuses I've ever heard for being distracted before a 202 game. Squid Row remains in 1st place after taking the series and winning two of the four games.
Rat & Roll entered the evening ready to feast, and for one glorious game the cheese platter belonged entirely to them. The Rats won the opener and briefly looked as though they might scurry away with the entire matchup. David Schemenauer led the team over the full evening with a 412 series and finished with a strong 154 game, above his 145 average. Andy Orwig also helped establish the early momentum, while Brandon Cook and Kyle Weber contributed to the opening-game victory. Unfortunately, Squid Row eventually chased them back into the shadows. The Rats did, however, escape with the series, which counts as the fourth game, so the final result was a 2-2 split in games with Rat & Roll taking the series. That's not a bad haul for a group of rodents who presumably spent at least part of the evening discussing whether a particular pin action paired better with Cabernet or Merlot. "We got the first game and the series, so technically the cheese is still ours," David Schemenauer said. I have no idea whether Schemenauer actually drinks wine, but I am increasingly convinced Rat & Roll should have their own vineyard. The Rats remain in 4th place, holding their position as the season reaches its halfway point.

And that brings the first half of Fall 2026 to a close, with the championship race somehow managing to become even more interesting after eight weeks of bowling-related chaos. BowlJobs punched its way upward, Queenpins slipped while dealing with a seriously depleted lineup, One Woman, Three Excuses delivered a four-game statement, Fist My Bump took a tough sweep but remains firmly in the hunt, Squid Row stayed on top after recovering from an opening-game loss, and Rat & Roll emerged with the series and a respectable split. Jesse Sauerbrei now owns two new personal bests, Chris Lenz produced the night's biggest over-average game, JoAnne Barber ruled the women's scoring department, and Matthew Taylor somehow found time to rescue puppies on his way to rolling the men's best numbers of the night. Eight weeks down. Eight to go. The standings are tightening, the pressure is rising, and somewhere out there a bowling ball is rolling toward a pin that has absolutely no idea what's coming. The second half is next, and Alotta Tenpin will be watching every frame. Bingo results.

Bowlers bribing their way into The 200 Club include: Matthew Taylor (202)

A new personal high game was set tonight by Jesse Sauerbrei (156, previous best 144). In addition, a new personal best series was rolled by Jesse Sauerbrei (375, previous best 343).
JoAnne Barber earned both this season's women's high game and series with her 165 and 434, respectively.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Jon Little swept Division 1, while JoAnne Barber creamed Division 2. Nobody claimed victory in Division 3, and in fact we aren't even going to talk about Division 3 as it was a complete embarassment, and Jeremy Varnell had his way with Division 4. In terms of overall points: Chris Windham is in the driver's seat in Division 1; Tim Deddens dominates Division 2; Chris Lenz governs Division 3; and Jeremy Varnell tops Division 4.
NEXT WEEK:
- First, on lanes 1&2, 1st-place Squid Row will match wits with 3rd-place One Woman, Three Excuses (hcp 148). Squids are expected to perform well and sweep the series; while Excuses are forecast to raise their average even as they endure a rough night.
- Moving to lanes 3&4, 4th-place Rat & Roll (hcp 23) will battle 6th-place The Queenpins. Rats might perform well, yet still manage to lose the series but avoid getting swept; while Queenpins ought to raise their average while they enjoy their victories.
- Finally, on lanes 5&6, 2nd-place Fist My Bump
will chuck some balls with 5th-place BowlJobs (hcp 40). Fist My Bump is predicted to roll decently and win the series; while BJs are anticipated to raise their average even as they avoid getting swept.
*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
