The 11th Frame: Week 5, Spring 2013

Posted by Ken February 21, 2013 Spring 2013

The fifth installment of "The 11th Frame" features some interesting nuggets from our Top 25s collection, covering the accolades (and disappointments) of our current and not so-current league rollers. As mentioned already in this week's write-upPhil Schroeder and Ken M. Wilson both kept their respective teams knotted in a tie in first place the week before they finally meet up in regular season play. Wondering what else happened that you probably didn't know about? Check this out:INDIVIDUALS:

Neil's legacy

Neil Rieger
Here in the next few weeks, Neil Rieger will roll his last game in our league before he departs for a new life in sunny California. During his brief tenure in our league, he certainly put his mark on the Top 25 lists: Best Substitute Bowlers (4th), Best League Debuts (6th), Highest Games of All-Time (13th), Bowlers with the most 600+ Series (19th), and Highest Lifetime Averages (8th). In the end, he'll leave us as the 16th best bowler of all time. Good luck with your new adventures, Neil!
Ian is a fast, fast man

Ian Goetz
We held off on debuting this list until we knew it was official, but Ian Goetz has proven to be the fastest person in league history to reach 100 wins. There was one person that had the potential to knock him off – Anita Osthoff – but it's now mathematically impossible. Anita will debut at #3 on the list with a single win next week. While Ian will surely strike a pose at topping this list, his teammates during those seasons – Carl Goetz, Ken M. Wilson, Chris Lewis, David Codding, and Seth Gunderson – expect hand-written thank you cards.
Jason Carpio gets around...

Jason Carpio
While thinking about how many league staples are rolling this session, we also noticed how many are back with their "usual crew." Despite 100s of options, there are some who have only bowled with a handful of individuals over the years. So we wondered – who has bowled with the most people during their time in the league? Once we thought about it, the answer was pretty apparent: having brought more people into this league than almost everyone else combined, Jason Carpio has had the most individual teammates in league history.
A dream series

Ken M. Wilson
With Ken narrowly missing Don Glasscock's all-time highest series of 770 Tuesday night, we got to thinking about what we could do with a bowler's total series and eventually wondered – what if you took everyone's individual best Game #1, best Game #2, and best Game #3 scores throughout their entire career in our league and acted like they were rolled on the same night. The results were interesting.

TEAMS:

Exceeding expectations
Although not a Top 25 (as how would you do that with an 8-team league), we got to wondering which teams have shot over their team averages the most this season? That crown goes to Will Strike if Provoked who, over the course of the fifteen games rolled so far this season, have exceeded their team average 11 times. Just behind them, tied at 10 games apiece, are Brunk Enough to Dowl and Snakes on a Lane. Nice work, gang!
A true team effort in the ToC
We're only two weeks into the Tournament of Champions and know which individuals are leading their respective divisions, but from a team perspective – which teams are producing the most matchup winners? Snakes on a Lane and Will Strike if Provoked have seen their team members each win 10 individual matchups while the guys on Split It & Hit It are on their tails with 7 victories to their name.

ODDITIES & STRAIGHT UP NUMBERS:

A new most common score?
For quite some time now, the score 158 has been the most commonly thrown game in our league's history. Why? We still have no earthly idea. Lately, however, a new score has been creeping up on it – 159. On Tuesday, we had three bowlers – Dennis "Pops" Laube, Anita Osthoff, and Seth Gunderson – each roll that game...which has moved it within eight instances of taking over the most commonly thrown game score. Surprisingly, no one has shot a 158 since Week #2. So far this season, 159 has been shot nine times. Perhaps we're all just one better now.
That's a lot of 200+ games!
With us wanting to see the league break the all-time most 200+ games in a single season record this season, Scoot has been keeping an eye out for an interesting milestone surrounding 200+ games. The 2,500th 200+ game shot in our league was thrown by Ian Goetz with his 213 in Game #2. Here's the to the next 2,500 of them!
