Is The Dolphin Show Over?

Posted by BowlingBot October 10, 2023 Fall 2023, Week 7 View Score Sheets

As the pins fell and the lanes lit up in Week 7, there were surprises aplenty. JoAnne Barber, with her impeccable skill and precision, dominated the scene, achieving the week's high game (155) and series (413) for the women, leaving all of the league's female bowlers in awe. Meanwhile, Matthew Taylor showcased his undeniable prowess, claiming this week's high game (216) and series (585) title for the men, further fueling the competitive spirit of the night.

Now, let's dive into the action!

Over on lanes 1 & 2, it was a showdown of epic proportions as Vigs Eras Tour 2023 and Sun Dolphins clashed. Nick Kinney brought his B-game to the table, leading his team despite a below-average 510 series, but the true star of the night was the Most Valuable Bowler, sub Buck Nasty, who orchestrated a spectacular victory, securing three wins for The Vigs Tour crew against the Dolphins. Meanwhile, Scott Thompson did his best to lead the Dolphins with his impressive 435 series, but his valiant efforts could only muster a single win. The Vigs Eras Tour 2023 maintained their stronghold in 1st place, while the Dolphins continued to hold their ground in 4th. However for the first time in a month the Dolphins are back to a losing record. Can they be rehabilitated or have they beached themselves?

When the tablets didn't work initially (holding back the starts of bowling by several minutes) it had nothing to do with SJCC's internet being down. It was this apostrophe -- a result of Scoot mixing up his programming languages while leaving a note for himself about a fix he'd made last week.

Moving over to lanes 3 & 4, Balderdash and √-1 were locked in a fierce battle. Matthew Taylor, the leading man of the Bald Boys, was on fire, collecting three wins against Imaginary Number while also collecting twice as many 200 games as the only other person to also roll a 200. On the other side, #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head Scott Murdock, the surprise headliner of Imaginary Number, showcased his miraculous 525 series. Yet, it was only enough for a single win. The competition remained intense, with Balderdash firmly holding their 2nd place position, and Imaginary Number refusing to budge from 3rd.

Finally, the action spilled onto lanes 5 & 6, where Glory Bowl and DB Lenz a Hand went head to head. Kent Harms was the standout performer for the G-Holers, with his impressive 498 series, but even his stellar performance could only secure one win against the DB Handlers. On the flip side, Chris Lenz, the driving force behind DB Handlers, commanded a commanding 495 series that propelled his team to a triumphant three-win match. With the dust settling, Glory Bowl found themselves slipping down one spot in the standings to 6th place, while DB Handlers celebrated their move up to 5th place.

Bowlers who made a brief visit to The 200 Club before deciding to blow the joint and just head to Jeremy's place for a more intimate setting include: Jeremy Varnell (202) and Matthew Taylor (215,216)

JoAnne Barber earned both this season's women's high game and series with her 155 and 413, respectively.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Aaron Barber swept Division 1, while nobody claimed victory in Division 2, and in fact we aren't even going to talk about Division 2 as it was a complete embarassment. Nicholas Knight triumphed over his enemies in Division 3, and JoAnne Barber cleaned up Division 4. In terms of overall points: Aaron Barber runs the show in Division 1; Ben Spencer holds the reins in Division 2; Nicholas Knight tops Division 3; and Chris Lenz calls the shots Division 4.

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 1&2, 2nd-place Balderdash will spend some quality time with 5th-place DB Lenz a Hand (hcp 139). Bald Boys are expected to perform well and sweep the series; while DB Handlers are forecast to drop their average a bit while they endure a rough night.
  • Moving to lanes 3&4, 1st-place Vigs Eras Tour 2023 will match wits with 6th-place Glory Bowl (hcp 88). The Vigs Tour crew might perform well and sweep the series; while the G-Holers ought to hold steady as they endure a rough night.
  • Finally, on lanes 5&6, 4th-place Sun Dolphins (hcp 46) will battle 3rd-place √-1. Dolphins are predicted to have a bit of an off night and get swept; while Imaginary Number is anticipated to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
