In The Bag

Posted by ScooterJ November 29, 2022 Fall 2022, Week 15 View Score Sheets

The fifteenth week of Fall 2022 saw the championship get clinched prematurely, eliminating one minor source of excitement about next week. One bowler set a new personal best game and series. Keeping it in the family, JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (170) and series (427) for the women, while Aaron Barber earned this week's high game (234) and series (660) for the men. Meanwhile, Tournament of Champions is officially down to its final eight bowlers, who will face each other next week competing for two cash prizes! Read on for all the rest of the details!

First up, on lanes 1 & 2: Sun Dolphins lined up at the Glory Bowl to clear their blowholes. Despite a show of strength by Scott Thompson with his above-average 487 series, the dolphins accomplished only 1 win against the Glorious. Meanwhile Brett Affolter with his staggering 596 series showed off for the Glorious as his team took the match with 3 wins. Sun Dolphins remains in 6th place, while the Glorious move up 1 spot to 4th.

On lanes 3 & 4: In a rather lopsided matchup, the foul scoundrels of Balderdash clashed with the also-foul I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter. Headlined by Matthew Taylor with his above-average 608 series, the balder dashers collected 3 wins against the nonbelievers. In usual Tott fashion, James Tott with his 500 series drew the spotlight of the nonbelievers despite his team notching only a single win. Balderdash remains in 2nd place, while the nonbelievers sink 1 spot to 5th.

Finally, down on lanes 5 & 6: AJ's Minions took turns kicking the ball return with Baby Beardo. Though reinforced by AJ Hofmann with his above-average 531 series, the minions got swept by the Beardettes. In the midst of this, #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head Aaron Barber and his outstanding 660 series took the lead among the Beardettes as they swept the competition and put the championship in the bag a week early. AJ's Minions remains in 3rd place, while the Beardettes are guaranteed to complete in first. The makes the 5th championship for Nick Kinney, the 7th for Aaron Barber, and a staggering 15th for both Carl Goetz and Seth Gunderson -- a new league record!

We still have 2 weeks of bowling left: the "championship" week on December 6 and Fun Week / Prize Night on December 13. Next week is the last week that counts.

Bowlers enjoying a guest admission to The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (201,225,234), AJ Hofmann (203), Ben Spencer (214,202), Brett Affolter (230), James Tott (202), Matthew Taylor (225,213), and Seth Gunderson (212)

A new personal high game was set tonight by Brett Affolter (230, previous best 227). In addition, a new personal best series was rolled by Brett Affolter (596, previous best 562).

Adding to the excitement, the 660 rolled by Aaron Barber is this season's new high series for men.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: AJ Hofmann dominated Division 1, while Ben Spencer mopped up Division 2. Aaron Barber shut down Division 3, and Scott Thompson won Division 4. Congratulations to our division champions! The following eight people will compete next week for the big prize! Division 1: AJ Hofmann and Dennis Walling. Division 2: Ben Spencer and Scott Murdock. Division 3: Aaron Barber and Ryan Sisco. Division 4: Scott Thompson and Collin Lavery.

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 1&2, 6th-place Sun Dolphins (hcp 24) will socialize with 5th-place I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter. The dolphins are expected to roll a little low and lose the series but avoid getting swept; while the nonbelievers are forecast to drop their average a bit even as they enjoy their victories.
  • Moving to lanes 3&4, 4th-place Glory Bowl (hcp 1) will share a couple of pitchers with 3rd-place AJ's Minions. The Glorious might maintain their current strength as they sweep the series; while the minions ought to hold steady as they endure a rough night.
  • Finally, on lanes 5&6, 2nd-place Balderdash (hcp 9) will spend some quality time with 1st-place Baby Beardo. The balder dashers are predicted to maintain their current strength as they just barely lose the series; while the Beardettes are anticipated to hold steady as they enjoy their victories.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
