All Guttered Up

Posted by ScooterJ September 13, 2022 Fall 2022, Week 4 View Score Sheets

In a topsy-turvy fourth week of Fall 2022, two of three three matches turned out exactly the opposite of how they were mathematically expected, leading to a surprise surge in the standings for one team in particular. Two bowlers set a new personal best series, and one rolled new personal high game. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (150) and series (430) for the women. As for the men, Michael Gordon and Nick Kinney both tied for this week's high game with a 233, and high series was earned by James Tott with a 608. Meanwhile, the Tournament of Champions also kicked off tonight, beginning of 13 weeks of one-on-one bowling excitement! Read on for all the rest of the details!

First up, on lanes 1 & 2: In the only matchup to go somewhat as anticipated, Balderdash paid their first visit to the facility's Glory Bowl and put it to expected use. With top billing by Matthew Taylor with his 558 series, the balder dashers collected 3 wins against the Glorious. Over on the other side, Brett Affolter with his better-than-normal 539 series emboldened the Glorious despite his team notching only a single win. Balderdash remains in 4th place, while the Glorious remain in 5th.

On lanes 3 & 4: What started out as a rather lopsided matchup one way quickly turned lopsided in the exact opposite way. The charming I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter was expected to be demolished by the intimidating Baby Beardo, but nothing happened as forseen. Led by trifecta-winner (#1 Head-to-Head, #1 Power-Ranked, and Most Valuable Bowler) James Tott and his stunning 608 series, the nonbelievers welcomed a clean sweep over the Beardettes. On the other half of the score sheet, Nick Kinney with his better-than-normal 580 series oversaw the Beardettes despite his team getting swept. I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter climbs 1 spot in the standings to 2nd place, while the Beardettes remain in 1st. In fact, apart from the total pins tie breaker, these two teams are now tied for first place by win-loss record.

Finally, down on lanes 5 & 6: Sun Dolphins and AJ's Minions repeatedly slapped their balls against each other's in the ball return. Reinforced by Ryan Sisco with his astounding 575 series, the dolphins collected 3 wins against the minions despite sneding lane 5's pinsetter into an infinite loop in the process. Concurrently, Scott Murdock with his better-than-normal 482 series showed off for the minions (though really only in the first game) despite his team notching only a single win. Sun Dolphins remains in 6th place, while the minions sink 1 spot to 3rd.

Split Trivia Time! Now that we are able to record splits, we can start learning about type types of splits we get. Through this week we have recorded 84 frames that were marked as splits. The 5 most common split configurations so far have been: 6-7-10 (8 instances), 4-6-7 (8 instances), 4-6-7-10 (7 instances), 4-7-10 (6 instances), and 5-7 (5 instances). None were picked up. In fact, only 6 of the 84 splits recorded so far have been picked up.

Bowlers who flashed their boobs to get let into The 200 Club include: Brett Affolter (227), James Tott (232,205), Jonathan Vigliaturo (205), Matthew Taylor (205,202), Michael Gordon (233), Nick Kinney (233), and Ryan Sisco (212)

A new personal high game was set tonight by Brett Affolter (227, previous best 210). In addition, new personal best series were rolled by JC Cox (323, previous best 321) and Ryan Sisco (575, previous best 454).

Adding to the excitement, the 430 rolled by JoAnne Barber is this season's new high series among women.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Nick Kinney whipped Division 1, while James Tott had his way with Division 2. Ryan Sisco creamed Division 3, and JC Cox routed Division 4. In terms of overall points: Nick Kinney calls the shots Division 1; James Tott reigns over Division 2; Ryan Sisco dominates Division 3; and JC Cox tops Division 4.

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 1&2, 1st-place Baby Beardo will chill with 3rd-place AJ's Minions (hcp 70). The Beardettes are expected to maintain their current strength as they win the series; while the minions are forecast to hold steady as they avoid getting swept.
  • Moving to lanes 3&4, 5th-place Glory Bowl will match wits with 6th-place Sun Dolphins (hcp 57). The Glorious might maintain their current strength as they win the series; while the dolphins ought to drop their average a bit while they avoid getting swept.
  • Finally, on lanes 5&6, 2nd-place I Can't Believe It's Not Gutter (hcp 114) will face 4th-place Balderdash. The nonbelievers are predicted to maintain their current strength as they get swept; while the balder dashers are anticipated to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
