Groupies’ Burning Balls

Posted by BowlingBot April 13, 2021 Spring 2021, Week 7 View Score Sheets

Sorry for the extremely delayed writeup! For obvious reasons, I (Scoot) have been very distracted and not in the mood to think about bowling this past week. :( I almost left it a robo-recap, but there are a couple of people who I am sure want their recognition.

The seventh week of Spring 2021 saw one team climb in the standings, while two teams slipped. JoAnne Barber picked up this week's high game (148) and series (373) for the woman, while Matthew Taylor earned this week's high game (266) and series (714) for the men. Read on for all the rest of the details!

First up, on lanes 15 & 16: Name Coming, Curtis Said couldn't stop undressing with their eyes the members of Larry, I'm On Ducktales. Demonstrating the prowess of Michael Whiles with his 456 series, TBD split the series with Ducktales. In the midst of this, Aaron Barber with his 588 series propped up Ducktales as they matched their opponent in wins. Name Coming, Curtis Said remains in 4th place, while Ducktales remain in 1st.

On lanes 17 & 18: Gimme Some Of Your Totts alternated splits with Smokin Js. Though reinforced by James Tott with his (we'll call it sandbagging) 420 series, Gimme Totts got swept by Smokin. On the other half of the score sheet, Most Valuable Bowler Jeremy Varnell and his better-than-normal 426 series took the lead among Smokin as they swept the competition. Gimme Some Of Your Totts plummet 2 spots in the standings to 5th place, while Smokin jumps 3 spots to 2nd.

In game 2 the Groupies' balls were on fire, but then in the very next frame both rolled a first-ball 9 leaving them simply burned. (Click for larger view.)

Finally, down on lanes 19 & 20: Raining Chimps had a challenging rendezvous with Gordon Michael's Groupies. With top billing by Ben Spencer with his above-average 574 series, Chimps split the series with Groupies. Meanwhile, #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head Matthew Taylor and his better-than-normal 714 series showed off for Groupies as they matched their opponent in wins. However Dennis Walling deserves mention as well for earning both the 5th biggest score swing between games and the 3rd biggest score DROP between games in league history as he plummeted from 255 in game 2 to 123 in game 3. Raining Chimps remains in 6th place, while Groupies sink 1 spot to 3rd.

Bowlers getting the VIP treatment in The 200 Club include: Aaron Barber (203,209), Ben Spencer (222), Dennis Walling (200,255), Matthew Taylor (266,258), and Michael Gordon (204)

Matthew Taylor nabbed both high game and series for the men this season with his 266 and 714, respectively.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Michael Gordon eradicated Division 1, while Jeremy Varnell clobbered Division 2. In terms of overall points: Michael Gordon runs the show in Division 1; and James Tott leads Division 2.

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on who knows what lanes, 2nd-place Smokin Js (hcp 97) will battle 3rd-place Gordon Michael's Groupies. Smokin is expected to roll a little low and get swept; while Groupies are forecast to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.
  • Moving to on who knows what lanes + 2, 6th-place Raining Chimps (hcp 47) will throw some gutter balls with 1st-place Larry, I'm On Ducktales. Chimps might roll a little low and get swept; while Ducktales ought to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.
  • Finally, on on who knows what lanes + 4, 4th-place Name Coming, Curtis Said (hcp 16) will tussle with 5th-place Gimme Some Of Your Totts. TBD is predicted to roll decently and sweep the series; while Gimme Totts are anticipated to drop their average a bit while they endure a rough night.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
