The fifth week of Fall 2026 has arrived, and folks, the standings have officially gone from "mostly stationary" to "somebody better call the air-traffic controller." I am Alotta Tenpin, reporting live from the sidelines, where Squid Row has just stormed all the way into 1st place, BowlJobs has somehow turned a statistical curiosity into an actual winning streak, and the pins are apparently no longer safe anywhere in the building! One bowler set new personal bests for both game and series, another rolled a new personal-best game, and Matthew Taylor absolutely detonated the season's record book with a 253 game and 680 series. JoAnne Barber captured the women's high game with 151 and high series with 399, while Matthew also collected this week's #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head honors. And in the most important development for the league's statistical historians, BowlJobs doubled their win record for the second consecutive week -- and then went beyond the double! Read on for all the rest of the details, and don't forget to check out this week's bingo results!

First up, on lanes 1 & 2, BowlJobs faced off against Fist My Bump , and what started as a perfectly ordinary bowling match quickly became the latest chapter in the increasingly inexplicable BowlJobs revival. The BJs dropped Game 1, but then apparently decided that one loss was quite enough and came roaring back to take the next two games and the overall series. That's three wins in one night, folks! Last week, BowlJobs doubled their win total. This week, they doubled it again and then added another win just for good measure. That's not a turnaround anymore. That's a hostile takeover.

Kurt Fredrickson was the man who put the "job" in BowlJobs, producing a new personal-best 463 series and the team's highest game of the night with a sensational 171. That 171 was 56 pins above his 115 average, and Kurt's performance earned him this week's Most Valuable Bowler honors. Needless to say, this BowlJob left Kurt with a satisfied smile on his face. Carl Mueller also turned in a strong 378 series, while Chris Hagan deserves special mention for recovering from a miserable opening game and coming back with much stronger bowling to help fuel the comeback. Brian Schaben had a quieter evening, finishing with a 314 series. "We lost the first game, so naturally I decided we should win the next two," Kurt Fredrickson said. "I didn't want to overdo it." Apparently three wins was the appropriate amount of overdoing it. BowlJobs won two games and the series after losing the opener, and remain in 6th place. But after two consecutive weeks of doubling their win total, the BJs are suddenly giving the league something very interesting to watch.

Across the approach, Fist My Bump grabbed Game 1 and probably figured the evening was about to become another successful scientific experiment. Unfortunately, somebody forgot to account for the BowlJobs resurgence. AJ Hofmann was the clear bright spot, delivering a 202 that was not only his team's highest game but also a whopping 43 pins above his 159 average. AJ finished with a 502 series and also reached the astonishing career milestone of crossing the 210,000 pins knocked down, landing at 210,403 pins. Scott Murdock put together a solid 415 series, while Tim Deddens contributed 394. The team simply couldn't maintain its Game 1 advantage once BowlJobs got rolling. "We had the experiment working perfectly," AJ Hofmann said. "Then BowlJobs changed the variables." I believe that's what scientists call "having the lead and then losing it." Fist My Bump won the opening game but lost the next two and the series, dropping one spot to 2nd place.

On lanes 3 & 4, the increasingly ominous Squid Row went head-to-head with One Woman, Three Excuses, and folks, this wasn't a battle so much as a cephalopod takeover. The Squids swept the series, piling up an enormous 2,240 pins in the process. More importantly, the victory propelled Squid Row from 2nd place to 1st place in the standings. Yes, you read that correctly: the Squids are now on top of the league! And they didn't sneak into first by one lucky pin, either. They arrived with a broom, a record-breaking performance, and enough tentacles to apparently cover every lane at once.

Matthew Taylor was the creature from the deep who absolutely terrorized the record book, blasting a new season-high 253 and finishing with a staggering 680 series. The 253 replaced the previous league high of 236, while the 680 obliterated the previous high series of 579. Even more ridiculous, that 253 was 86 pins above Matthew's 167 average, making it the highest over-average game of the night. Chris Windham also cracked 200 with a 206 and finished with a huge 573 series, while Dennis Walling added 468. Matthew's spectacular evening also earned him both the week's #1 Power Ranked and #1 Head-to-Head spots. "First place looks pretty good on us," Matthew Taylor said. "We figured we'd just keep throwing strikes until somebody made us stop." Nobody did. So here we are. Squid Row is in 1st place.

One Woman, Three Excuses found itself on the wrong end of the Squid Row tidal wave, getting swept in all three games and watching its position in the standings slip from 3rd to 4th. Yet there were legitimate individual performances worth salvaging from the wreckage. Chris Lenz provided the team's biggest individual bright spot with a 408 series and a team-high 154 game, which was an impressive 39 pins above his 115 average. JoAnne Barber also had a memorable night, taking the women's high game and series with 151 and 399. Jeremy Varnell put together a 348 series, while Jesse Sauerbrei finished with 288. "I blame the squid," Chris Lenz said. "There were far too many arms involved. I got yelled at for using borth arms a few seasons ago, but these guys use SEVEN!" I have checked the rulebook and, surprisingly, there is no specific penalty for excessive tentacles. The sweep left One Woman, Three Excuses devastated, but they remain in 4th place.

Finally, down on lanes 5 & 6, The Queenpins went up against Rat & Roll, and the royal court discovered that even a crown doesn't protect you from a rodent uprising. The Queenpins were swept, dropping one position to 5th place. Ryan Sisco led the team with a 335 series, but it wasn't enough to keep the royal carriage from rolling directly into a ditch. Lindsay Sargent had a difficult evening as well, while Todd Kasik provided some steadier production with a 298 series. The Queenpins simply couldn't generate enough offense to keep pace with the Rats. "I believe the rats staged a coup," Ryan Sisco said. "We will be reviewing their eligibility for the royal court." Unfortunately for Ryan, the rats appear to have all the paperwork they need. The Queenpins were swept and drop one spot to 5th place.

Then came Rat & Roll, and if you ask me, these rodents arrived dressed for a fine evening of wine, cheese, and total domination. Rat & Roll swept all three games and the series, jumping two places in the standings to 3rd. Kevin Hodge was the star of the evening, uncorking a personal-best 163 game and following it up with a personal-best 450 series. That 163 was also the Rats' highest game of the night and helped them keep the Queenpins firmly behind them. Andy Orwig contributed a 363 series, while Brandon Cook finished with 348. "A personal-best 450 series pairs nicely with a three-game sweep," Kevin Hodge said. "I'd recommend something full-bodied with a long finish." I assume he means wine, although in bowling circles "long finish" usually means you're still trying to figure out where the ball went. Rat & Roll swept the Queenpins and jumped two spots to 3rd place.

And there you have it, folks! Week 5 has completely rearranged the upper half of the standings. Squid Row didn't merely win; they took over 1st place, doing it with a monstrous 2,240-pin series and a record-shattering performance from Matthew Taylor. Rat & Roll also made a two-position leap to 3rd, while Fist My Bump, One Woman, Three Excuses, and The Queenpins each slipped a spot.

But perhaps the strangest and most entertaining storyline belongs to BowlJobs. After doubling their win total last week, they somehow managed to double it again this week -- and then go one better, winning three games after dropping the opener. If they keep improving exponentially, soon we'll ALL have BowlJobs. Kurt Fredrickson supplied a personal-best 463 series, Matthew Taylor rewrote the season record book, Kevin Hodge posted a personal-best 450, and AJ Hofmann crossed the 210,000-career-pin milestone.

Five weeks in, the league suddenly has a new team sitting on the throne, a team at the bottom that appears to have discovered the secret to winning, rats drinking imaginary wine, and enough bowling statistics to make my head spin.

The Squids are on top. The Rats are charging upward. The BJs are apparently multiplying. And everybody else had better start paying attention.

JoAnne Barber earned this season's women's high game with her 151 In addition, Matthew Taylor nabbed both high game and series for the men this season with his 253 and 680, respectively.

In this week's Tournament of Champions brackets: Matthew Taylor swept Division 1, while nobody claimed victory in Division 2 (though Tim Deddens came closest). Chris Lenz got the better of Division 3, and Kurt Fredrickson creamed Division 4. In terms of overall points: Matthew Taylor tops Division 1; Scott Murdock leads Division 2; Carl Mueller dominates Division 3; and Kurt Fredrickson is in the driver's seat in Division 4.

• First, on lanes 1&2, 4th-place One Woman, Three Excuses (hcp 4) will face 3rd-place Rat & Roll. Excuses are expected to maintain their current strength as they win the series; while Rats are forecast to hold steady as they avoid getting swept.
• Moving to lanes 3&4, 5th-place The Queenpins (hcp 28) will chuck some balls with 2nd-place Fist My Bump . Queenpins might maintain their current strength as they get swept; while Fist My Bump ought to raise their average while they rack up a sweep.
• Finally, on lanes 5&6, 6th-place BowlJobs (hcp 150) will roll against 1st-place Squid Row. BJs are predicted to maintain their current strength as they get swept; while Squids are anticipated to hold steady as they rack up a sweep.
