Double Nickels Deployed! Season 55 Kicks Off

Posted by BowlingBot August 18, 2026 Fall 2026, Week 1 View Score Sheets

The Fall 2026 season is officially underway, and six teams have now launched themselves into 16 weeks of bowling, bragging rights, and the pursuit of that most coveted of prizes: the completely nonexistent championship trophy. Hi, everyone! I'm Alotta Tenpin, your exuberant sideline reporter, and I can already tell you this season is going to be spectacular. One bowler blasted out a new personal-best league game, Lindsay Sargent claimed the women's high game with a 142, JoAnne Barber captured the women's high series with a 402, Dennis Walling detonated the men's high game with a 236, and Jon Little topped the men's series with a 568. In other words, Week 1 arrived quietly and then immediately threw the bowling equivalent of a folding chair through the window. Amid the action, don't miss this week's bingo results. Let's roll!

Lanes 1 & 2: BowlJobs vs. Rat & Roll

BowlJobs
Let's begin with BowlJobs, a team whose name is obviously not just about employment opportunities. I mean, come on. You put "Bowl" in front of "Jobs" and expect me to believe we're talking about a normal workplace? This is clearly a team name designed to make a sports reporter giggle every time she has to say it. BowlJobs came into the night ready to clock in, punch the time card, and put in an honest day's work, but they ultimately managed only one victory while Rat & Roll took the other two games and the overall series, leaving BowlJobs in 5th place. Mike Fitzgerald was the undisputed foreman of the operation, putting together a 435 series and, more importantly, blasting out a 192 in Game 3 for the team's highest game of the night. That 192 was not merely impressive; it was Mike's new personal-best league game and came in a spectacular 47 pins above his 145 average. After opening with a 104, he climbed to 139 and then apparently decided it was time to stop fooling around. Chris Hagan also kept the machinery humming, improving from 126 to 136 before finishing with a strong 154, while Brian Schaben posted 115, 103, and 94. Kurt Fredrickson was absent, so the BowlJobs operation had to function one employee short. "I thought I had the whole thing under control," Mike said, "but apparently Game 3 was when I finally remembered where the pins were." BowlJobs may have lost the match, but Mike's personal best means somebody went home with a very satisfying overtime boner bonus. And frankly, for a team with this name, that's probably the kind of (job) satisfaction they're looking for.

Rat & Roll
Rat & Roll, meanwhile, scurried into the building and immediately started chewing through the competition. They took two games and the overall series, springing into 2nd place in the opening standings. David Schemenauer was the big cheese, rolling a 434 series and the team's highest game, a 176 that was a terrific 32 pins above his 144 average. Even better, David saved some of his best work for the moment it mattered most, closing the night with that 176 to help Rat & Roll take Game 3. Andy Orwig was electric out of the gate with a 148, 20 pins over average, although his 105 in Game 2 temporarily sent his scoring into the rodent-sized basement before he recovered with a 132. Kevin Hodge was steady all night with 135, 123, and 127, while Brandon Cook experienced the most dramatic turnaround, going from 91 to 122 to 140. That's how you go from squeak to swagger. "We may have started out nibbling," David declared, "but by Game 3 we were eating the whole pantry." Rat & Roll may have stumbled in the middle, but they came roaring back when it counted. They have the second-place perch, the series victory, and presumably a rapidly increasing appetite for whatever team gets placed on the menu next.

Lanes 3 & 4: 3 Pins and a Gutter vs. The Queenpins

3 Pins and a Gutter
Oh, 3 Pins and a Gutter. I have seen heartbreak before, but this team apparently decided that one victory was simply not enough emotional variety for a single evening. They lost the first two games, rallied dramatically to win Game 3, and nevertheless finished with the series loss, dropping them into 6th place. Their one bright beacon was JoAnne Barber, who not only led the team with a 402 series but also produced the team's highest game, a 140 in the opener. That 402 earned JoAnne the women's high series for the night, so she has already put some serious hardware-looking imaginary hardware on the mantel. Birthday boy Jesse Sauerbrei also deserves credit for a spectacular late surge, using his shiny new ball to climb from 81 in Game 1 to 91 and then 135 in Game 3. That final 135 was 33 pins above his 102 average and helped power the team to its 579-point Game 3 victory. Jeremy Varnell, however, endured a rough night with 64, 60, and 95 against a 73 average. The team finally found its footing in Game 3 and fought back, but by then the Queenpins had already built too much of a cushion. "We saved our best game for last," JoAnne said, "which is a perfectly valid strategy if the bowling gods enjoy dramatic television." They may be sitting in sixth, but after that Game 3 comeback, I wouldn't advise anybody to assume the gutter is where this team plans to stay.

The Queenpins
The Queenpins did not merely enter Week 1; they marched in wearing a crown, demanded the best seat at the table, and promptly took command of the standings. They won the first two games and the overall series, opening the season in 1st place. Their victory was powered by Jon Little, whose magnificent 568 series earned him the league's #1 Head-to-Head honor and the #1 Power Ranked position for Week 1. Jon's 210 in Game 2 was 21 pins above his already formidable 189 average and was one of the night's three 200-plus games. He then finished Game 3 exactly at his average with 189, giving the Queenpins exactly the kind of star power required to sit atop the early standings. Ryan Sisco contributed 149 and 163 in the first two games before dropping to 112, while Lindsay Sargent endured a slow beginning before absolutely uncorking a 142 in Game 3. That 142 was the women's high game of the night and a stunning 31 pins above her 111 average. And yes, the woman with the long blonde ponytail apparently decided the final game needed fireworks. "We didn't need to win every game," Jon said, "we just needed to win enough of them to make everybody else nervous." Mission accomplished, Your Majesty. The Queenpins are sitting on the throne in 1st, and everyone else has apparently been informed that appointments are required.

Lanes 5 & 6: Fist My Bump vs. Squid Row

Fist My Bump
Fist My Bump delivered the kind of performance that makes a sports reporter reach for the dramatic adjectives and then realize there aren't enough of them. They split the series with Squid Row, leaving Bump in 4th place as both as the Fister and the Fistee. And yet this team produced some serious fireworks. Scott Murdock was the team's top single-game performer, blasting a 159 in Game 1, an enormous 37 pins above his 122 average. Unfortunately for Scott, the momentum didn't carry over, as he followed with 105 and 103. AJ Hofmann was considerably more consistent, rolling 132, 144, and 150 for a 426 series, exactly the kind of steady production that keeps a team in the fight. Tim Deddens also found another gear late, moving from 104 and 106 to 137 in Game 3, while Jim Koger stayed close to his average all evening. Then came Game 1, where Fist My Bump exploded for a 619 victory. The team followed that with a brutal 748 from Squid Row in Game 2, a bowling score so large I briefly checked whether somebody had accidentally added the scores using base 6 numbers. "We won the games we were supposed to win," Scott said, "and then Squid Row went and summoned an entire ocean." Fist My Bump may sit fourth, but nobody should mistake that for a lack of punching power. They have already demonstrated that when the fist connects, somebody else's pins are going flying.

Squid Row
And now we descend beneath the surface, where Squid Row spent the evening proving that sometimes the best way to survive a battle is to unleash an absolutely ridiculous middle game. Squid Row split the individual games with Fist My Bump but dominated the overall series, rolling a gigantic 1,914 and beginning the season in 3rd place. Matthew Taylor was a major reason why, piling up a 534 series and launching a 224 in Game 2, one of the night's three 200-plus games. That 224 was 46 pins above his 178 average and came during the team's enormous 748 outburst. Dennis Walling was even more spectacular in a different way, firing the night's men's high game with a 236. That was an astounding 60 pins above his 176 average, making it the highest over-average game of the night. Chris Windham improved from 129 to 125 and then 146, while Scott Thompson was solid through the first two games before dipping to 130. Game 2 was not merely a win; it was a 748-point tidal wave that overwhelmed Fist My Bump by 158 pins. "We didn't just swim with them," Matthew said. "We brought the entire aquarium." I would normally call that an overstatement, but after watching Dennis put 236 on the board and Matthew follow with 224, I'm beginning to suspect these squids have discovered some kind of underwater training facility. Squid Row surfaces from Week 1 in 3rd place, with an enormous series and enough offensive firepower to make every other team suddenly check whether their life jackets are properly inflated.

Final Frame

What. A. Night.

The Fall 2026 season has barely cleared the starting gate, and already we've had a new personal record, three 200-plus games, a 60-pins-over-average explosion, a 748-team-game demolition, dramatic comebacks, crushing defeats, and standings that are already giving us plenty to argue about. The Queenpins sit proudly atop the early table, Rat & Roll are lurking in second, Squid Row have surfaced in third, Fist My Bump are fourth, BowlJobs are fifth, and 3 Pins and a Gutter are staring up from sixth. But this is Week 1. There are still fifteen weeks for somebody to go from forgotten contender to bowling legend.

I'm Alotta Tenpin, and if this is what the opening night looks like, I strongly recommend everyone buckle up, secure the rental shoes, and keep an eye on the gutter. The pins are flying, the egos are swelling, and that nonexistent championship trophy is already looking more valuable than gold.

Bowlers who stripped naked and shared a cozy hot tub together in a back room at The 200 Club include: Dennis Walling (236), Jon Little (210), and Matthew Taylor (224)

A new personal high game was set tonight by Mike Fitzgerald (192, previous best 191).

NEXT WEEK:

  • First, on lanes 1&2, 4th-place Fist My Bump  (estimated hcp 55) will face 1st-place The Queenpins. Fist My Bump is expected to maintain their current strength as they and split the series with Queenpins; while Queenpins are forecast to drop their average a bit while they keep the series tied.
  • Moving to lanes 3&4, 5th-place BowlJobs (estimated estimated hcp 104) will spend some quality time with 3rd-place Squid Row. BJs might roll a little low, but split the series with Squids; while Squids ought to drop their average a bit while they keep the series tied.
  • Finally, on lanes 5&6, 2nd-place Rat & Roll will chuck some balls with 6th-place 3 Pins and a Gutter (estimated hcp 79). Rats are predicted to have a bit of an off night, yet still manage to win the series; while Gutterly Pinned is anticipated to hold steady as they avoid getting swept.

*(Remember, the predicted results above are based on mathematical extrapolations and can be changed by all sorts of factors. If you don't like how your team's results are predicted, you and your teammates have the power to prove the math wrong!)
