Vets Battle on Veteran’s Day

Posted by Ken November 11, 2014 Fall 2014, Week 12 View Score Sheets

While temperatures plummeted outside, scores plummeted inside overall in Week #12 of GutterAlley action as our league average took a dive. Despite big victories across the four matchups only two teams ended up moving at all in the league standings. Gaps are starting to form in-between the various teams throughout the league as the Finals draw closer and closer. Brace yourself, folks...it's going to be a bumpy ride.In the first matchup of the night, My Three Sons looked to return to the top of the league standings but stalled out against opponents Split It & Hit It. After taking Games #1 and #2 behind a 554 series from Ian Goetz, the Sons looked poised to add yet another sweep to their win record but Split It's Dennis Blake had other plans. With his team leading 526 series leading the charge, Split It rallied to not only take Game #3 but covered the spread enough to come away with the total pins victory as well to end the night with a 2-2 split. Neither team moved at all in the standings, with My Three Sons remaining in 2nd while Split It & Hit It holds onto 6th place.Down on lanes 43 & 44, the Dixie Stampede looked to climb back up into prominence at the expense of Pin and Tonics. What ended up happening, however, was a back and forth between the two opponents. Drawing first blood was Dixie, led by anchor Ryan Doll's 643 series, who came away with a close Game #1 victory. Fighting back to secure a huge Game #2 blowout victory were the Tonics that saw high output from Aaron Barber, who led the team with his 580 series, along with Michael Gordon's first 200+ game (a 203!). Game #3 was all Dixie as the team rallied behind this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler Rob Kaszuba to earn the win. Total pins still landed in the Tonic's court, however, to end the night at two wins apiece. Neither team moved in the standings, with Dixie Stampede remaining in 5th while the Pin & Tonics hold onto 7th place. The last time that The Finger Holes faced current league leaders 921+, it ended with The F-Holes walking away victorious. Such was not the case Tuesday night. Led by anchor Ken M. Wilson's 640 series, 921+ exacted their revenge in a 4-0 sweep of the competition while hoisting yet another entry in the top ten of the Top 25 Best Team Series of All Time on teams of 4-per. The F-Holes, led this week by lead off roller Phil Schroeder and his 530 series, simply couldn't find the firepower to derail the steamrolling 921+. The current league toppers extend their league lead by two games out in 1st while The Finger Holes fall one spot down into 4th place. In the final matchup of the night, More Beer, Chelsea continues to have their storybook season as they came away with a 4-0 matchup victory over competitors Ballz Out. With more charity wins than any other team this season – more than legitimate wins from the Ballz (happy now, AJ?) – Chelsea rode the wave of Most Valuable Bowler's Dan Imperial's stellar output alongside a team leading series of 468 from anchor Eric Lynch to notch the four victories. Ballz, led by Chadwick Andrews and his 483 series, continues to search for answers as they remain in 8th place. More Beer, Chelsea climbs one spot into 3rd place. The Tournament of Champions currently looks like this:Division 1 = Ryan Doll (23), Ken Wilson (15)Division 2 = Jonathan Vigliaturo (19), Aubrey Moren (18)Division 3 = Rob Kaszuba (21), Chadwick Andrews (17)Division 4 = Dan Imperial (18), Michael Smith/Jake Parrott (15)Bowlers trying to stay warm in The 200 Club this week include: Aaron Barber (205), Brian Coe (227, 223), Bryan Mohr (200), Ian Goetz (201), Jonathan Vigliaturo (202), Ken M. Wilson (226, 204, 210), Kody Karnes (216, 236), Michael Gordon (203), Rob Kaszuba (224), and Ryan Doll (215, 222, 206). See you next Tuesday!
