The Home Stretch

Posted by Ken April 15, 2014 Spring 2014, Week 12 View Score Sheets

Week #12 is now a part of GutterAlley history and the Finals are now less than a month away. A few weeks back the season looked all but wrapped up for the current league leaders but, despite only two teams swapping places in the league standings Tuesday night, the Spring 2014 may still be up for grabs. Across the league tonight, the infamous ScooterMath™ predictions failed to come to fruition with every single underdog team coming away with more wins than were expected. NOTICE: See the sunglasses on Chelsea? Yeah, those sunglasses. Someone left those on our lanes last week and no one yet has stepped up to claim them. If they are yours, please let us know and we'll try to steal them back from everyone's favorite Tuesday night beer maiden. With that out of the way, let's get into the actuals...The battle of the anchors went down in one of the tightest contests we've seen all season as The Finger Holes took on last season's champs, Bowltron. Game #1 went to The F-Holes by a single pin, compliments of anchor Aubrey Moren and his 660 series. Game #2 went the same way, albeit it by a larger margin of victory. Bowltron's Ryan Doll – this week's #1 Power Ranked bowler – hoisted the best game of his league leading 663 series in Game #3 to secure the teams lone win of the night. Total pins went to The F-Holes by only four pins to take the night 3-1 and moved up into 2nd place due to a total pins tiebreaker. Bowltron remain in 4th place. Up until last week, this season has belonged to the men of Pinterest as they easily vanquished their opponents and never lost a series. For the second week in a row the team has now left the lanes on the losing end of the equation, beaten down this time by Split It & Hit It. Led by Dennis Blake and his 515 series, Split It owned the matchup with their 3-1 outcome and barely missed a clean sweep – dropping Game #3 by only ten pins. Pinterest's Ian Goetz provided the most fire power with his 542 series but couldn't muster more than the one victory. Pinterest remains in 1st but by only 3.5 games now. Split It & Hit It stay put in 6th place. They say that all good things must come to an end so it only makes sense that all bad things must come to an end as well. This made UpgrayeDD very happy as they ended their 16 game losing streak with a 2-2 matchup split against opponents Schwetty Balls. Behind Josh Robison's average-increasing 447 series, Up went up Games #1 and #2 with increased margins of victory before Schwetty's Bob Brunker put a stop to it. Raising his average almost to 180 with his 619 series, Brunker kept his team in the hunt by securing a victory in Game #3 and pulling out total pins as well to tie up the series at two games apiece. Despite the wins, Schwetty Balls rolls down one spot into 3rd while UpgrayeDD continues to hold onto 8th place. With Eric Lynch out with his wife Sarah having a baby instead of bowling (gee, Lynch...priorities!), Mark It Zero took on opponents Twerking Balls down on lanes 47 & 48. Easily taking Game #1 behind sub Aaron Barber's 530 series in his debut, Twerking Balls suffered only one setback in their 3-1 matchup victory all night in Game #2. Leading the charge in Zero's lone win of the night, Kody Karnes put up a team-leading 596 series (subsequently ending his 7 week streak of throwing a 600+ series). Game #3 – as well as total pins – went to the Twerkers aided by this week's Most Valuable Bowler performance out of Teresa Deterding. Neither team moves at all in the league standings with Mark It Zero still in 5th and Twerking Balls in 7th place. The lay of the land in the Tournament of Champions now looks like this:Division 1 = Ian Goetz (25), Seth Gunderson (18)Division 2 = Phil Schroeder (19), Scott Murdock (16)Division 3 = Freda Schroeder (17), Josh Robison (14)Division 4 = Michael Gordon (24), Michael Smith/AJ Hofmann (14)Bowlers with the firepower to hang out in The 200 Club this week include: Aubrey Moren (218, 204, 238), Bill Krejci (204, 202), Bob Brunker (201, 245), Ian Goetz (203), Kody Karnes (236), Ryan Doll (205, 223, 235), and Seth Gunderson (202).
