Every team in the league switched spots in the standings.
After six weeks, it typically becomes apparent which teams are seriously
going to make a run for the title. However, in the VML bowling league,
this is not quite the case. With each team scheduled to bowl one another
twice, new rivalries are formed during these first seven weeks as teams
that seemed invincible the week prior fall to new opponents. Tuesday night
saw something that hasn't been seen in quite some time – every single
team changed positions in the league standings.
The league's current top two teams finally faced one another in what turned
out to be a battle of attrition. Without stellar bowling on either side
of the equation (everyone, with the exception of one bowler between the eight,
either dropped or maintained their average), 3 Pin Moon returned to
the top of the standings after delivering a clean sweep to No Pinheads.
Led by Ryan Doll and his 567 series, 3 Pin finds themselves a game
and a half ahead of the Pinheads. Aubrey Moren was the top roller on
the losing side of the battle, ending the night with a 508. The Pinheads
slip to second.
With legendary heckler Kris Heistand watching over and commenting on
their matchup, Bowlumpkin and The Prak Attack laced up to do
battle. Although The Attack teammates nearly all rolled over their averages,
they couldn't compete with this week's Most Valuable
Bowler, Orion Kinkaid. Kinkaid, who led his team with a 505
series, was simply unstoppable Tuesday and added a 3-1 matchup win onto
his team's record. The Attack was led by Shane Pfaffly and his 476
series but it wasn't able to secure more than one win. Bowlumpkin blows up
into 6th place while The Attack falls to 8th.
The third and fourth place teams also did battle for the first time this
season and, like the 1st and 2nd place teams, there was a changing of the
guard. Behind Angela Bradford's 512 series, Scoot Gave Us the
Schlitz powered through to take a 3-1 victory over Empire Strikes
Back and inched up into third. Carl Goetz continues to lead
Empire, putting up a 585 series, but only earned one win. Empire now finds
themselves in 4th place.
The final matchup of the night belonged to Janelle Laube of the
Lil' Devils. Hoisting a 494 series, Nellie almost single-handedly
crushed her competition and added four wins to their record at the expense
of the Little Lebowski Urban Achievers. The wins propel the Devils
into 5th place. Greg Shelton was the top Achiever for his team,
rolling a 405 series, but it simply wasn't enough to turn away the Devils.
Lebowski falls to 7th place.
The few, the proud, the inhabitants of The 200 Club
this week: Angela Bradford (215), Ryan Doll (215), Carl Goetz (202), Orion
Kinkaid (208), Adam Messner (203), and Shane Pfaffly (201).
See you next Tuesday!
